Supreme Court stops Aquino Govt from imposing VAT on Toll

The Supreme Court today stopped the Aquino administration from imposing Value Added Tax on toll fees and has also issued a Temporary Restraining Order against the Toll Regulatory Board from imposing a higher toll fee at the South Luzon expressway to cover the construction costs of a Malaysian contractor.

This should effectively stop the Bureau of Internal Revenue from implementing a very illegal action. The BIR said they are imposing VAT on toll fees, which, under the law, defines as something which is not a product nor services. It is illegal to impose VAT on taxes, such as toll fees.

BIR chief Kim Henares however is adamant and said that they will still impose the VAT despite the Supreme Court decision and TRO. The BIR wants to impose the tax this Monday.

Henares should be fired from her job. She does not know what she's talking about. She, of all people, should know that toll fees are not subject to a Value-Added Tax for being patently a form of taxation.

The people should be vigilant. Everyone should be informed. Let all the people go out of their homes this coming Monday and militate against this illegal, unethical and criminal action to be imposed upon the hapless Filipino citizenry by the BIR this Monday. Let the people's anger and outrage be heard this Monday.

The Aquino administration should be stopped AT ALL COSTS.
