The Real State of the Filipino Nation: the jobs sector

President Benigno S. Aquino III says that 3.1 million jobs were created during the past two years under his administration. Oh, really? Let us look at what the National Statistics Office (NSO) says about the job situation.

There is nearly 63 million Filipinos aged 15 and above. As of April 2012, there are about 40.6 million in the labor force, about 900,000 more from the previous 2011 figure.

Employed persons make up about 37.8 million from the figure 40.6 million. Half of this number work in service establishments (51.4%), which about 19.4% involved in motoring works (machine hands).

Fifty one percent (51%) of employed persons work in full-time jobs, while the 49% work part-time.

Thirty three percent of employed persons work in the agricultural sector, about 1/3 of this figure. Nearly 15% are employed in the industrial sector and only 8.4% are involved in the manufacturing sub-sector.

Who are our employed persons?

Wage earners-----------------------55.5%
Laborers, skilled and unskilled------33.2% 
Farmers and agricultural workers---14.7%
Government workers----------------8.0%
Working for private households-----4.3%

Self-employed workers account for 29.3% of employed persons.

Unemployment rate post at nearly 7%, and of those unemployed, 21% are college graduates. Meaning, at least 21% annually from nearly 700,000.

This figure (labor situation) has not improved since 2011.
