Harry Roque---an asset or a liability to Duterte?
He vows to "scream" or just do some
"Shrilling" exercises against Opposition

Just a few days after being announced as Duterte's spokesperson, Harry Roque promised to throw "hollow blocks" against administration's critics. Minority leader Edcel Lagman reacted and described Roque's boasts as "hollow bluff"

Roque then changed tack and promised not to curse, but to "scream". Scream? Roque wants to scream? Really now. Is shrilling a form of screaming?

We had had enough of screaming, of cursing and of really listening to crap from the Office of the President. Instead of sobering up, the Communications team of the President is promising to dish out more trash-talking, more shrilling, more cursing and screaming like faggots like how Roque promises.

For a man who spent his entire life teaching future lawyers in the University of the Philippines to be somber and using the human rights issue as his platform to break in thru Philippine politics, Roque's latest antics seemed too unbelievable, and sadly, too disappointing.

Roque's plan is to compete with his fellow co-workers in the Communications team of a bamboos tic President. You have a Martin Andanar there who describes the President's critics as "kulang sa iyot" (sex-starved), an Assistant secretary who compromises the future of this country's young generation with her fake news and consultants like DJ Nieto who pretends to be an expert in digital media when his blog do not even earns a Google page rank. Sad.

Unbelievably, you have a Communications team which we will finance with public funds just for them to use their public offices to attract attention to themselves. This is the first time that publicists of the President will act as stars rather than their principals. True Strategic Communication experts give the public space to their principals.

Everyone knows why Roque wanted nothing more than get that spokesperson post from Duterte--he will just be using that platform for his senatorial ambitions. see link.

In 2016, Mr. Duterte says he will not appoint people in Cabinet rank if he thinks that these people will just be using their posts for their political ambitions. see link. Roque intends to use his national post for a 2019 slot in the administration's senatorial slate. Another failed promise by Mr. Duterte. 

Roque has been salivating a national post since 2015, when he tried to join UNA's senatorial slate only to be given the advice of just running under the Kabayan partylist. I heard from a very reliable source that Roque has been planning to get more national attention since he began getting all those human rights cases.

Roque's challenge

Roque faces a tough challenge. BY next year, this administration will encounter certain rough waters. Roque thinks that he can escape these challenges by "screaming." Let's see if his strategy would really work.

Mr. Duterte is pinning his political survival on a man who intends to scream and throw hollow blocks against the opposition. This just means that Roque intends to create a ruckus, an entertaining show, while we, ordinary people, wallow in the hard reality of these times. Expect Roque to provide great entertainment while this administration slowly goes Southward.

What Duterte really needs

Duterte suffers from a perception problem. Many people misinterpret his actions as actions by a madman. Duterte is being pictured as a berdugo. Duterte is also being compared with Erap in terms of being presidential.

Duterte risks losing his political capital, and probably his post very soon.
