General Reyes laid to rest: AFP Fund Mess probe enters new chapter

The military just gave full military honors to one of its illustrious sons, General Angelo Reyes. In a letter supposedly made by Reyes shortly before he took his life, the beleaguered general recounted how important several values to him. One of those he treasured is honor.

Honor in service, this was one of those things which the former general treasured. He said that he never got anything that was out of the ordinary. He saw several bribe offers, but did not touch them. He, however, indirectly intimated the possibility that he did, received the usual traditional honoraria.

Now that he's dead, Congress will now have a free hand in investigating the Carlos Garcia bargaining deal. Probes will focus more on the culpability of the public prosecutors who entered into the deal. They surely are responsible since there are pieces of evidence that they did not consider when they were investigating the issue.

The same old questions remain--who is or who are the backers of Garcia? Who is this group being referred to by former general Reyes who are very strong? Why are they very strong? Sources say, they are connected now with the present administration.

By the way, heard this "rumor" of a former general being used to launder money abroad. This general has been assigned in several foreign assignments reportedly to take care of several accounts.

What is the connexion between a big telecomm deal with the Garcia backers?

What is the involvement of the group in the proposal to sell military assets such as Camps Aguinaldo and Crame? Is one or several members of this group who are very close to an Aquino Cabinet member involved in the Garcia group?

I hope the senate continues its probe so that the people may know the real score behind this very unfortunate and tragic incident. Otherwise, the death of one of the Motherland's sons will surely be in vain.
