Global War Looms in Libya

The Western powers, namely the United States, Britain, France and Germany struck Libya yesterday, forever changing the tempo and face of a worsening civil war. This intervention, backed by a United Nations resolution, is an action which aimed to force Libyan president Moammar Khadaffy to stop annihilating rebel forces at Benghazi. However, it seems that the motivation for the attack is deeper than what the Western powers tried to portray before the world stage.

Due to the intervention of the West, countries comprising the African Union are sending their armed delegation to Tripoli. A multinational war looms in the Mediterranean, with Libya as the center of conflict.

Libyan President Moammar Khadaffy remained defiant, vowing to strike hard against the Western invaders. Khadaffy likewise, intensified his propaganda machinery, describing the attack as a "crusader's" attack aimed at an Islamic republic.

The attack actually is aimed at controlling the vast oil fields and resources of Libya which, for the past 40 years, have been under the control of Khaddafy.

Now, if the West expects Khadaffy to fall like Saddam, that is not as simple as it looks. It must re-assess the situation.

Khaddafy has established a global network for himself, which, could be activated anytime against Western powers. Before his rapproachment with the West, Khaddafy once supported Islamic insurgencies in many countries. Libya was the main financier of Islamic insurgent groups. These groups, which continue to exist, are now expected to act against the West in defense of Libya.

This attack at Libya could precipitate and probably intensify flash points in different regions around the world.

This could be the start of a bloody global war.
