Is Gloria Arroyo next on the chopping block?

Several analysts say it's all a matter of time before the long arms of justice catch the mafiosi poster girl. People from the know say that the poster girl and her lackeys are covering their tracks so neatly and carefully, thanks to the indecisiveness of this administration to pursue cases against known allies of the Arroyos who continues to occupy sensitive posts in government. Those "left behind" were given tasks to cover the tracks of the Arroyo gang who left a path of destruction in its wake.

This impeachment of Gutierrez will determine if the mafiosi poster girl's influence is still there. If the articles of impeachment passes in the House, that shows that the Liberals have, indeed, arrived as the major political force in the country.

Gutierrez expects a fight at the Senate, probably, banking on the allies of the former dispensation who still occupy seats at the Chamber. What Gutierrez probably fails to realize is the fact that these personalities are quite "sensitive" since this year is a political year. Those who want another dig at the Senate will definitely use this occasion to grandstand.

Gutierrez has a chance to salvage her reputation at the Senate, since Lakas president Bong Revilla is still a force to contend with in the upper chamber. Revilla has just been voted as Lakas president and enjoys the backing of the Arroyos. Revilla enjoys the support of at least three to four Senators, while the rest of the Senators are expected to heed the call of President Aquino to expedite the impeachment of Gutierrez.

It will be interesting to see how this impeachment would turn out in the Senate.

Two questions---who will Aquino appoint as the Ombudsman, and will Aquino really pursue a case against Arroyo, this time, through the Ombudsman and not thru a legally contentious Truth Commission?

Let's see.
