Tuwad na daan and Customs Chief Angelito Alvarez

Its unfair, says Customs Chief Angelito Alvarez of rising calls for his ouster. The House opposition discovered several missing containers said to be worth 230 million pesos and believed to have been smuggled already and now circulating illegally in Metro Manila environs, and calling for his relief seemed still unfair, as far as Alvarez is concerned.

Calls for his relief came even earlier, late last year, as the Bureau fails to meet its quarterly targets and reports of smuggling activities by alleged close Alvarez associates rose. Check the performance of the bureau and it remains sub-par or really below par.

If smuggling remains unabated, there is no control over the activities of the entrenched Customs mafia and several containers remained missing, then, why fight for your post, Mr. Alvarez? I guess it's time to call it quits before people think that the reason why you want to stay is something illicit? I hope and guess not.

There's a joke doing the rounds and saying that if everybody is doing the tuwid na daan, Customs is actually doing the tuwad na daan.
