Yesterday, it seemed that the world just suddenly stopped. When I learned that Steve Jobs died, it felt that the world came to a halt. Everybody seemed to be silently grieving as if some big thing just disappeared from their very lives.
Steve Jobs represented my generation. I grew up knowing that apples and mice are one and the same thing, and apps are improvements rather than software. Who thought that technology is personal? The "i" in every Apple device means you're allowing yourself to be part of change, of technology, something which Sony did not even think or Samsung. They produce things, these giants. For the people behind Apple, technology is creation, technology makes life simple.
That's what many people like about Steve Jobs. He brought technology and the human spirit together. Every Apple device, every app created, are celebrations of life. They are expressions of human yearning to achieve perfection in simple things.
Look, the ipod is not new. It's just an MP3 player. But Steve Jobs made it unique. It's your player, not somebody's. And it does not merely play you music--that music inside every ipod represents something in you. That is you, actually.
That Ipad you bring along, that made life even more simple. The minute you make someone's life simple, you bring about change, rapid changes, that benefit not just the individual, but the world around him.
Every Apple device thus became instruments of change. Change, however, depends on how Apple influences the life of that user.
For a businessman, Apple changed his perspective on how to do business. For a student, more knowledge in his fingertips. For an ordinary fellow, more power to do things, and change things.
Life improved because of Steve Jobs. Jobs unleashed the forces of creativity that every single one of us realized the limits of one's creativity depends only on one's courage to explore. There is no limit to what one can do. Possibilities became endless, as dreams once thought impossible in the field of technology became as real as a microwave oven.
Apple is the arc that connected the end dots of a flat world. That arc is likened to a rainbow that unleashed man's creative soul.
Like how John Lennon left a great void in 1979, Steve Jobs did his in 2011. The Iphone S4 became the last of Steve Jobs creation. How Apple can move past Job's influence is a great hurdle.
