A report from the Commission on Audit says that 101 billion pesos were stolen from public coffers by corrupt government officials last year.
Philstar journalist Mike Punungbayan, a good friend, says these amounts were "stolen, misused and mishandled."
Nearly 21 billion pesos were lost due to undercollection, a form of graft and corruption. There were 157 cases of such under-collection or under-assessment.
Overspending, another form of graft, accounted for 1,600 plus cases which amounted to a loss of 18.6 billion pesos. While contracts amounting to about 15 billion got lost because they did not undergo the usual procurement process or bidding.
Unliquidated cash advances amounted to 7.5 billion pesos.
Is there no graft and corrupt cases in the Aquino administration? There are, and they are increasing in frequency.
Seriously, we are being misled by this administration, portraying itself as "clean" and traversing the "right path", when pieces of evidence point to a ballooning budget deficit due to graft and corruption.
