Reproductive Health bill passed---finally.

The Senate just passed the controversial Reproductive Health bill by a vote of 13-8. Majority of them, including my favorite Senator, Teofisto Guingona IV says that they voted to protect the rights of women and the "unborn". One of them, I think it was Senator Estrada who does not favor pre-marital sex, but agreed on supplying condoms to teenagers. Whoa.

So, it is like this---we favor the Reproductive Health bill because we believe that government has the right to intervene with the reproductive and even the "sexual life" of individuals, not just couples here. By even including the phrase "satisfying sex" in the bill proves that the state now has the right to even say what "satisfying sex" is.

Do we even have a study which shows why unwanted pregnancies occur among the ranks of our teenagers? Are condoms the right answer to prevent unwanted pregnancies? If that is so, then, we believe that having sex among teenagers is okey provided that government lends them support by teaching them about ovulation and stuff and supplying them with free contraceptives, since, we all assume, that sex will happen anyway and there is no choice but to give these teenagers protection? Wow.

So, it's like this---we favor Reproductive Health because we rely and believe on science as the panacea on all social and economic ills of our society, without even delving deep into the serious issues and providing alternatives sans condoms.

Some who support the RH bill says, the bill helps poor families manage the number of their children. I am waiting for the final version of the RH bill before writing anything about it.
