Criminality on the rise in RP--living in dangerous times

I, myself, am a victim of a crime. My daughter was nearly snatched from me by an alleged syndicate preying on young girls. Fortunately, she just lost a cellphone and luckily, she had presence of mind. How about the others?

More and more people are engaged in illicit activities because opportunities for them to earn a decent buck are fast disappearing.  The environment is turning into a howling wilderness to most.

But don't be misled. Those who commit illicit activities are not just those economically challenged and sociopaths, but even the sophisticated among us are also engaged in illicit activities.

We are seeing thievery from the top to the bottom rungs of our society. We see businessmen robbing us of our monies through legitimate means--one example is Meralco.

We see decent looking men and women stealing from us every single time we use our cellphones to call or text. We see barong clad people entering into high profile deals with government for the purpose of getting those billions which were collected from us as taxes.

We see foreigners stealing from us a safer and environmentally sound future by carving those mountains and destroying river beds by digging for those sands.

We see a serious problem in peace and order because of the fact that those we expect to follow the law are those violating the very laws they created.

How will the people respect those laws when the so-called leaders of the land are themselves, violators and big time thieves?

Cardinal Tagle is right and I was telling it since Day one-- we lost what we call hiya. When a nation like us lose this valuable thing called hiya, the next thing is chaos.
