There must be something about Atty. Harry Roque that piqued President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Duque's unceremonial "dumping" as spokesperson was as classic as any other. Imagine, you were sent for an official trip to China only to be dumped while you are abroad, effectively making you worthless and without any authority to negotiate or talk for and on behalf of government.
That's Duterte's brand of friendship. To my mind, that's expected. Kung ako din is Duterte, why will I trust a Roque? If Roque can dump his own friends for his political ambition, all the more will I actually think twice or even thrice about him.
Some would say, ever since naman, Roque was not really inside the kulambo, so to speak. He's not really close to Mr. Duterte. Others say, Roque was a victim of internal politics in Malacanan. Roque vowed not to run but he reportedly insisted before the President that he be included in the administration slate. That, to Mr. Duterte, is a betrayal already.
Now, Roque has no political allies, a floating butterfly. He's definitely a Pariah as far as the human rights community and the academe are concerned. So, it's back to zero for Roque.
It would be a hard climb for him from now on but we have to also give it to Atty. Roque. What happened to him is a classic case in political games. Hope he learns something here.
