www.OhMyGas.com a fraud?

As you know, I'm thinking of cutting down costs. One of the most problematic money depleting assets of mine is, obviously my car. It's a Mitsubishi Adventure which gulps 55 liters (yet one of the most fuel efficient vehicles today---18 kilometers per liter). And you know the pump price of diesel right? Every week, I spend close to 2,000 pesos for fuel costs.

While writing my recent post at Facebook, I stumbled upon an invitation from www.ohmygas.com. As I learned later on, this is a site maintained by Streetedge Media, a local below-the-line advertising agency based in Makati City, specializing in this niche market of car advertising. They promised to give car owners 10,000 pesos every month in exchange for giving them advertising space. If you allow them to stick advertisements in your car, they'll initially give you 5,000 pesos and when you complete 1,000 kilometers, they will then honor their end of the bargain by giving you the rest of the 5,000. Not bad, given that this could possibly save me easily 10,000 pesos worth of fuel and car maintenance costs.

Me and my wife went to their Streetedge Media booth in Makati and registered our vehicle. We were made to pay 40 pesos as registration fee. Our vehicle was photographed. The speedometer was read and registered. And they posted a www.ohmygas.com sticker at the back of my car. The guy from Streetedge Media told me that the last week of November, they'll be a campaign and someone from their company will visit me and post the ad.

It's already December and no StreetEdge Media member in sight. And I'm beginning to think that I just paid 40 pesos for them to post their sticker in my car. No hi, no hello. Nothing. And I'm starting to think that I've been had.

I'm starting to consider complaining but I am giving the Streetedge Media people the space they need to explain their side. A promise is a promise. I promise to compromise myself and my car for you; you better honor your side of the bargain. Otherwise, I'm also giving you the chance not to honor your word. Overpromising is best kept outside the advertising industry.

  1. Mr Mangubat,

First of all, I want to clarify that our website is not www.ohmygas.com but www.ohmygas.com.ph which will redirect you to our main site, www.streetedgemedia.com. Also, our main office is in West Avenue. Our Makati station is only one of our checkpoints where applicants can submit their requirements.

I am afraid that you have been misinformed. Please note that:

(1)We do not guarantee that everyone will be selected and that payment will be P10,000 every month. Payment is UP TO P10,000 and will vary according to sticker and vehicle size. The process posted on our website (http://www.streetedgemedia.com/pages.php?pid=motorist&qid=works) states that vehicles will be chosen based on the requirements of the advertiser. If you do not fit the requirements of a particular campaign, you will not be able to join.

    (2) We do not pay P5,000 initially and another P5,000 upon completion. If you are not part of any campaign, you will get no payment. If you are part of a campaign, you will get full monthly payment after each campaign month. Again, motorist payment will vary on a per campaign basis.

    (3) We do have a campaign which launched on the last week of November. If you have an activated account, you can login to your account through our website and you will see the campaign there. If you were not invited, then chances are you did not fit the requirements for that particular campaign. We inform qualified users through email or SMS.

Please let us know where you got your information from so that we may take proper corrective action. Everything you need to know about Streetedge Media can be found in our website. Each process - from signup to sticker installation to payment - is explained in detail. If you have other concerns, please email us at inquiry@streetedgemedia.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

We are sorry for this misunderstanding.

    Streetedge Media Inc.

  2. Hi!

Thanks for clarifying. Actually, the guy who gave me the sticker told me all the things I wrote here. Points well taken and I commend you for clarifying everything. Just one more question---

If these are your terms, why do we need to pay you 45 pesos for processing fee? What's the fee for--processing for what?

Thanks and I expect your answer soon.

  3. Thank you for informing me of this matter. I will speak to our Makati Checkpoint personnel.

The one time P40 application fee goes towards the maintenance of our checkpoints. These checkpoints are for the convenience of our motorists. We will soon have more checkpoints in other areas of Metro Manila.

Also, you mentioned that you have already submitted your documents to our Makati checkpoint. However, we do not have a Patricio Mangubat in our database. What name did you use to sign up? You may e-mail us your answer at inquiry@streetedgemedia.com

  5. To concerned people. The domain name http://www.ohmygas.com.ph/ is an available name and still for sale to anyone interested. It is in a free host parking. It does not lead to streetedgemedia.com as alleged. There is no llnk in the ohmygas webpage that leads to streetedgemedia. This must be a fraudulent scheme to fool people
