Answer to Gatdula

Jemy Gatdula, who read my earlier post on "Civility in Politics" noted more than ten examples of personal issues used against Philippine politicians. I appreciate it. But let me then answer them one by one.

""Give me at least ten examples in the past where political parties used personal issues or domestic problems against certain Philippine politicians":

1) marcos and dovie beams (ninoy even gleefully spread cassette tapes of this, see the impossible dream by sandra burton)

----Will this qualify? NO. We are after historical incidences when these were USED AS propaganda fodded by other politicians. The answer is NO.

2) imee marcos and the tommy manotoc kidnapping case.

--Was this used by the Laban political party to discredit Marcos as presidential candidate in 1986? NO.

3) fvr and baby arenas

--This issue cropped up AFTER FVR won the presidency NOT BEFORE.

4) manuel roxas and trining roxas anger at his infidelities of 1947 (see lewis gleeck: the third philippine republic)

---This issue was never used against Manuel Roxas by his political enemies. Fact was, Manuel even won the presidency. Get the drift?

5) erap and a lot of women

---Yes, this qualifies. It was used against Erap in 1998 elections but look what happened--Erap won the presidency.

6) gma, mike arroyo, and various personal marital allegations

--These issues cropped up during Arroyo's tenure, and it never came up during the 1998 vice-presidential elections.

7) carlos and mrs. garcia's extravagance scandal of 1958 (free press reporting)

--Yes, these came up DURING Carlos P. Garcia's administration and did not affect Garcia's reputation. Why? Garcia's administration was very brief.

8) elpidio quirino and the golden arenola scandal

--Though it was proven that the golden arenola did not exist, it did not affect Quirino's political stature.
But, this qualifies.

9) jose laurel, benigno aquino sr., manuel roxas, serging osmena collaboration with the japanese scandal (again, lewis gleeck, as well as agoncillo, and the mojares' the man who would be president)

---Huh, these were POLITICAL ISSUES, not ISSUES INVOLVING VALUES.

10) manuel roxas' practice of buying newspapermen (see lewis gleeck: the third philippine republic)

--Yep, Gleeck reported it during the time of ROXAS ADMINISTRATION, not prior to his ascendancy to the presidency.

plus: ninoy aquino's womanizing (see paterson's america's boy), doy laurel and lopez propositioning women (see pilapil's the woman without a face), and various affairs between politicians or officials (see beth day romulo's inside the palace).

Yep. But these issues were never used as main fodder against these personalities. Back then, consult your Paterson and Gleeck---politicians were questioned by the people on their particular STAND on ISSUES.

noynoy not running for sainthood? he's certainly running to be the representative of the best of the filipino. unless somebody is saying we again (as we've constantly done in the past), have to settle for less from the philippine's alleged (very alleged) elite and (very) supposedly 'de buena" families."

Hahaha, Jeremy, Jeremy.

Question Jeremy Gatdula--so what was Kris' personal life got to do with Noynoy running for the presidency? Try again.
