Dolphy--He Who Made Us All Laugh

I am not a son of Dolphy. But I felt a deep pain and it made me extremely sad when news of his passing went on air. While writing this, I remember him---He Who Made Us All Laugh.

Dolphy has made a very visible mark in the consciousness of the people. The State may not have given him the honor of being a National Artist. For the millions who forgot their troubles while watching him act before the silver screen, Dolphy was the quintessential People's artist.

He's the last of those who use unconventional methods in comedic acts. Dolphy idolized Charlie Chaplin. He studied the Hollywood comedy star, and made his acts even better. With his passing comes the very last of Filipino actors who understood and did comedy ala Chaplin.

Dolphy was not just a fine actor--he was also a fantastic dancer. Dolphy was trained by some of the country's finest dancers during the time when he was still working at Boudeville.

Dolphy was one of a very distinct few who really understood what the masses want. Watch his films and you'll never get tire laughing.

With his passing, where will we get our laughter? Comedy is dead, but long live Comedy.

Dolphy, you will not be merely missed--you will be remembered, forever.
