President Noynoy Aquino and Umali's call to PNP Chief Purisima

President Noynoy Aquino tries to defend Governor Alfonso "Boy" Umali, a Liberal Party member, who is now embroiled in a controversy when he called Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Alan Purisima regarding Globe Asiatique owner and scam suspect Delfin Lee.

Presidential spokesperson Ed Lacierda said that the President was satisfied when Boy Umali explained his call to Purisima. Umali says his provincemate who happens to be Delfin Lee's counsel asked him for a favor, which he responded by calling Purisima.

For Aquino, that call was nothing but an innocent thing. Nothing wrong with it. It happens.

Well, Mr. President, it is not as innocent as it looks.

That call was an attempt to frustrate the ends of justice or what legal experts describe as obstruction of justice.

For one, Mr. Umali is not the proper party to negotiate with the Philippine National Police for Lee's behalf. It is the courts, Mr. President, that adjudged Lee guilty and by law, Lee's movements should be restricted by preventive incarceration.

His incarceration has been determined by the courts thru the Warrant of Arrest. That warrant is still in effect. Only the Court of Appeals can order the lower court to quash the warrant if there is indeed an intention of the courts to do so. Without this, the acts of the police were justified.

And then, here comes Mr. Umali.

I thought this administration wants to eliminate this thing called influence peddling or palakasan? I thought this administration wants to get rid of the wang-wang mentality, which essentially considers using one's influence or power to get what one wants.

The thing about this administration is its propensity to lie. Sayang.

Come to think about it, I expected this to happen.
