Who is Dennis Cunanan

Dennis Cunanan used to be one of the most promising student leaders of the University of the Philippines in Diliman. Cunanan is a brilliant organizer. He was the chairman of the National Union of Students of the Philippines from 1990 up to 1992. He replaced Mike Defensor as NUSP chairman.

When Mike ran for public office, Dennis Cunanan was his trusted lieutenant and organiser although they belong to different fraternities. Mike Defensor's fraternity is Ma Sig or Alpha Sigma while Cunanan is an active member of the fraternity EKIT or Sigma Kappa Pi, a fraternity of student activists. Ekit is one of the recognized fraternities of the Left.

Cunanan and Defensor grew in friendship together since they were both comrades in the political arena. Cunanan never left Defensor's side, especially when Defensor took on heavier political responsibilities as Gloria Arroyo's second in command.

I don't know what really happened with Dennis, but he has obviously changed. Gone is the idealism which defined him. I used to admire him. But, after hearing his testimony today and how disjuncted what he says or what he claims and what he appears before us, the very man who once clenched his fists and shouted for change, is now, a willinglap.
