A secret affair should have remained secret

A succession of movies depicting the lives of the rich and famous came shortly after the success of one which showed how a mere indiscretion resulted to a near fatal end.

The movie, " The other woman" broke box office records within a month and producers quickly wanted to cash on it by producing others with the same theme. The latest, of course is this movie " A secret affair", which stars Ann Curtis, Derek Ramsey and Andi Eigenmann. In this movie, Derek is the husband of Anne, while Andi stars as the paramour. In their first movie, Anne used to be the mistress who acted like she was on the verge of a "fatal" attraction.

I remember one interview made by Anne. The 28 year old actress was urging her co-star Andi to do her best in their movie because " the mistress always gets the best and most memorable scenes". I agree. Even in real life, the mistress always gets all the attention.

Now, what do we expect from this movie, which promises to eclipse the first one? Well, I checked the Kapamilya website and here's the movie's plot:

Rafi (Anne Curtis) is happily committed to her lovely partner in life, Mark (Derek Ramsay). She's a bachelorette from a rich family, who belongs to the "Friday Club", the regular get-together of her college friends. Rafi is an attention-getter because of her in and out beauty and impressive credentials. But one day, a major life decision shifts everyone's impression of her. Sam (Andi Eigenmann), a rebellious, carefree and happy-go-lucky woman, who thinks that she can get away with her every dilemma. However, her perspectives turn 180 degrees when she meets the man who unexpectedly changes her life.

Okey, sounds familiar? Yes? There is no "secret" in the movie--it is an obvious take-off from the previous one. And believe me, the man in this movie will surely escape from this caper, unscathed, just like what happened in the first movie.

In our society, having a mistress means a lot to one's machismo image. Sometimes, i think that this one, despicable and detestable to some, but, on hindsight, already socially acceptable. Our laws are not as strict as other societies in punishing say, adultery or concubinage. When one of a couple commits indiscretion, the level of punishment varies based on one's gender.

If the husband is being accused of concubinage, the accuser needs to prove that (1) the husband already cohabited with the mistress and (2) the cohabitation has existed for a time, hence, the presumption of having a sexual relationship.

In the case of a woman being prosecuted for indiscretion, the law is strict---adultery is proven merely by the woman being with a man, even though their is no proof of a sexual relationship.

This explains why this movie, among others, does not punish the man. It punishes the two women who undergo an extreme emotional roller coaster ride while the man looks on.

It's sad that this movie did not try to present a "new story"; rather, it was made to "be commercially safe". The producers probably thought that they already have all the elements for another run to the bank. Crap.

This usual practice explains why there is a slump in the box-office. Our Filipino producers are not really looking for new material. They want to be safe which is understandable.

I miss those days when Philippine cinema produced thought-provoking films that made money and also entertained Filipinos.

Let's have a breather for a while and let's talk about Anne Curtis.


Anne Curtis is really very popular these days not just because she has one of the most beautiful faces in Philippine cinema--she's known for her professionalism and industriousness.


At twenty five years old (Her birthday falls on the 17th of February 1985), this Filipina-Australian actress was recently spotted on the driver's seat of a new black Porsche. Yes, this very controversial German car, which hugged the headlines recently after President Noy got one, is the hottest big-ticket item nowadays. It's not the most expensive, mind you, there are others bigger and more expensive than a Porsche. Right now though, it's the most desired. 


ANAK TV seal hailed her as the most admired female personality. Despite her hot, sexy looks, Anne has achieved what no other actress in her age group had---a very nice public reputation.


Credit that to the fine handling of her career.

Anne Curtis is also one of the richest actresses in her time. She's the stuff of billboards along EDSA and numerous magazine covers. She hosts the successful noontime show Showtime and has starred in hit movies.


Curtis started doing movies at a very young age. When she became a teen, she was actually the hottest. And now that she's a fine, young woman, she has blossomed into one of the most desirable creatures in Philippine showbusiness.


When news spread that she acquired a Porsche, nobody squirmed or frown. She deserves it. Anne is known as one of the most professional and the most hard-working actresses in her time and she deserves nothing less than a Porsche. 


Stars should be all glam. And an Anne Curtis deserves not just a Porsche maybe a Ferrari.


That's different when a public official is concerned. Public officials are expected to live an austere life, away from the glamourous glare of media attention. 

Mrs. Arroyo underwent mammoplasty?

Speaking of Dr. Hayden Kho, his employer, the Belo Medical Group, gets their money out of breast augmentation procedures or what many calls mammoplasty.

The Belo Medical Group got their millions out of these procedures. Celebrities and Filipina millionaires (and probably even some daring males) flock to their place to get their breasts "plump and ready."

The usual people who goes there are those who want to enhance their bodies.

Now, I'm shocked to learn that Manila Bulletin published a news which says that even Philippine pseudo-president Her Excellency Madame Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo underwent mammoplasty procedures herself at the Asian Medical Hospital in Alabang.

Shocking? Well, no. Even presidents can be so vain. The question is---why at the Asian Hospital and not at the Belo Medical Group? Maybe Mrs. Arroyo fears of being a victim of a sex video scandal, like what KC Concepcion, Anne Curtis, Katrina Halili or even Bea Alonso reportedly went thru? Imagine Quiapo illegal video traders feasting on video clips of a mammoplasty operation. Yuck!

A bioplasty was also done on Mrs. Arroyo's breasts. There was also a cyst or a lump found in Mrs. Arroyo's groin, which the report says, is scheduled for operation.

Palace spokesperson Cerge Remonde , denied this. Remonde said that Mrs. Arroyo underwent a regular checkup in the hospital.

My friend, Philippine Star columnist Jarius Bondoc went further and explained that the reason for the mammoplasty operation on Mrs. Arroyo was a "leaking silicone breast implant."

Well, if that's true, that's clearly expected. Why? Maybe the implant was made in China. ;-)

Mrs. Arroyo, actually, needs this procedure, but I pray not for her breasts. No.

I want her to undergo a heart implantation procedure. She needs to replace that scheming, achy breaking heart with one that feels for the masses.
