Today, January 7, various groups led by former Vice President Teofisto Guingona Jr. will have a press conference at The Orange Place Hotel, Kamias Road, Quezon City.
Topic---the unification of groups all seeking for justice in the Vizconde massacre case and other unsolved criminal cases.
The group which was called People's Movement for Justice (PMJ) is the biggest civil society grouping since the assumption of the new administration.
Collectively, the group commands the biggest aggrupation--estimated at about 5 million members nationwide.
Dante Jimenez, formerly the chair of the VACC, is one of the lead convenors, together with Vice President Tito Guingona.
PMJ is composed of all sectors in the Philippine Civil Society Movement. Those who already gave their solidarity for the group are the following:
Rep. Lisa Masa of the group Gabriela
Satur Ocampo of Bayan
Rasti Delizo of Sanlakas
Leody de Guzman of Partido Lakas ng Masa
Theody of Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino
Father Robert Reyes
Ret. General Raymundo Jarque
Mary "Rosebud" Ong for Whistleblowers
Lauro Vizconde
Atty. Mike Topacio
Sister Mary Jane Mananzan
Ecumenical Movement in the Philippines
Para sa Bayan (PSB)
YOU (Young Organizers' Union)
This is somewhat a rainbow coalition of groups now resolved to fight the scourge of injustice in the country. Injustice assumes many forms, not just the injustice in resolving criminal cases.
The fight is on! Onward revolutionary forces towards true JUstice and Freedom!

Tito Guingona: Fight for Justice continues with Vizconde case

Guingona, a seasoned lawyer and legislator, said that the Supreme Court erred in reversing the decisions of the Court of Appeals and the Regional Trial Court which found Hubert Webb and the rest of his buddies, guilty of killing the Vizcondes in 1991.
He, along with VACC chairman Dante Jimenez, Mary "Rosebud" Ong, Capt Dizon, General Jarque, Rasti Delizo of Sanlakas, Leody de Guzman of Partido Lakas ng Masa, and Father Robert Reyes joins anti-crime crusader Lauro Vizconde in asking the Court to do a self-reversal of the previous ruling exonerating Webb etal from the crime.

A decision coming from the Highest Tribunal of the land cannot be reversed by any other body except itself. Since the decision was "final and executory", any appeal or petition for reconsideration will actually be deemed null and void. A known principle of double jeopardy prevents anybody from filing a case with the same information or the same facts against the same accused individual in a case.
The meeting was the first one attended by big people's organizations since the assumption of the new administration.
The January 10 mobilization is expected to attract at least 5,000 people, according to rally organizers. If these groups unify, this will be the largest ever people's gathering in the eight month old administration.
Meanwhile, Justice secretary Leila de Lima says elements of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) are now hot on the heels of fugitive Joey Filart and Artemio Ventura, two suspects pinpointed by Jessica Alfaro as responsible for the brutal massacre of the Vizcondes.
De Lima said she will be initiating a move aimed at extraditing Joey Filart. This information proves the credibility of Alfaro, says De Lima.
Alfaro appeared before the courts in 1994, who claimed to have witnessed the killing of the Vizcondes. Her testimony was used to convict Webb etal. The same testimony was used by the Supreme Court in exonerating Webb etal.
For De Lima, the positive identification of Filart proves the authenticity of Alfaro's testimony.
Alfaro remains in hiding. Some quarters are saying that Alfaro will surface anytime to give support to Mang Lauro Vizconde. The only question is when.

Teofisto Guingona stands up once more

There comes a time when everyone, every Filipino, needs to decide, decide on what to sacrifice for the sake of his country. History would show that events of the greatest magnitude happen, when ordinary people decide to finally stand up and say "Enough is Enough!" And my friends, this is the time.
When people of all ages, of all ideological beliefs and of differing religious views unite together for the sake of the greater good, beautiful things happen. The last time that we truly did it was in 1986, when all of us, all of us, went to EDSA and side by side, faced the forces of tyranny. In those times, everyone, every single one of us, became Patriots.
Extraordinary times call for extraordinary sacrifices from ordinary people like us. We don't need heroes, for everyone has the power and the will to become one. And when thousands of us decide to stand up and be one with those who desire for change, change do happen, in an instant, in a blinking of an eye, we break the camel's back.
Tomorrow, former Vice President Teofisto "Tito" Guingona Jr. will once again stand up. At 10 o'clock tomorrow, at Club Filipino, Tito will announce something that will shake the very foundations of this evil regime. I admire this man. At 81 years old, Tito never fails to amaze even the strongest of us. Kung yung ibang ka-edad niya ay magreretiro na, Tito continues to fight for the Filipino.
The question of the day is---ikaw, tatayo ka ba at lalaban? Simula na!
