Internal cleansing of the PNP is necessary

What is too disheartening about this expose is the undeniable fact that several of our cops are into assassinations and they are using the Oplan Tokhang or Double Barrel campaign as "cover" to the real reason why they are killing alleged "drug suspects" or "drug pushers."

To the credit of PNP chief General Bato dela Rosa, he has revealed this early on in the campaign, that is it inevitable that some members of the PNP would be involved in such criminal activities and would be using the campaign as a ruse. The PNP is living up to its name of being one of the most corrupt police organisations in the world.

Really now, the PNP organisation is worth saving because these scalawags are just a few, a miniscule part of the entire force. These people are using their "chapas" as cover to their real mission in life, which is to kill, rob and do other despicable things in the name of money.

I have many friends in the service who want real change to happen in their lifetimes, cops are real people like us who want nothing more than be part of an organisation of men who dedicate their lives for the protection, not for the alienation, of the citizenry. Cops are part of the professional forces and they are an essential component of our aim to improve the standard of life here in the Philippines.

I believe, strongly, that these cops want nothing more than be part of an organisation who protect the citizenry from criminal elements. When a cop turns rogue, and becomes a criminal, that is one less cop to protect a 10,000 Filipinos. Imagine that.

I don't know about you, but if I am the Chief PNP, I would immediately fire those involved in this murder of Jee Ick-Joo. I would not subject them to just push-ups----firing them from the service is the most appropriate punishment. When a cop loses discipline, pushups are lame remedies.

Is Bato too afraid with these cops? If I am the Chief PNP, I would slap criminal charges against these cops, fire them from the service and see to it that they are either in jail suffering life imprisonment or deep six feet underground.

This is the problem with Bato dela Rosa---he has become a politician of a cop. Please sir, don't. The very first time General dela Rosa appeared on television, people thought that they have a strong ally on their side. Right now, Dela Rosa is showing very weak leadership qualities.

Sir, the PNP needs a strong leader so that everyone would not stray from the path. As things stand, General dela Rosa is either a wimp or simply, an idiot, a man who only knows how to fire a gun, and nothing else. Worst, some think that Bato is really a homosexual hiding behind Duterte's skirt.

Sir, if you think that killing poor drug offenders or small-time criminals contribute to the overall restoration of peace and order, you are mistaken. As they say, talagang pang small time itong si Bato. Takot maging sa kapwa les-pu.

Sir, execute your mission. Annihilate these rogues in uniform. You either jail them or kill them. These people don't deserve to live simply because they have violated their sworn oath, and when a man breaks his own oath, there is no more reason for him to live. It is as if he loses his self, his soul. What is a man without his soul, right sir?

PO1 Joselito Sevilla--a man of peace, a model cop

I was moved when Rem Zamora wrote how he managed to take this iconic shot at the SONA rally yesterday. This photo moved me into tears. This shows how the entire PNP organization has been transformed---from a combatant to a peace organization who respects the rights of their fellow Filipinos.

During my time, we clash at cops when these cops throw smoke bombs at us. In my experience as a rallyist, non-uniformed cops usually blend with the rallyists and these cops, themselves, provoke the crowd to violence so that the crowd disperses.

At other times, it was us who provokes them.

When I saw this photo, I am extremely proud of our police officers who took part in this dispersal operation against my fellow activists. I apologize if I am writing this now, even praising this cop who stood firmly there, shield at hand and performing his duty.

PO1 Joselito Sevilla was crying when he was facing the militants. He showed no fear and definitely it was not fear nor stress which made him cry inconsolably.

When reporters interviewed him, Sevilla said that it was probably because of the stress that made him cry. Or probably, he thought of the foolishness and futility of fighting the very same people he vowed to protect.

I am definitely sure that PO1 SEVILLA will not flash the peace sign in front of hardened criminals. Like a true blue cop servant, Sevilla will instead bring out his pistol and shoot the life out of these scoundrels.

PO1 Sevilla is a model cop. I urge the PNP chief to honor this cop and make him a model policeman. Policemen ought to be peace makers.

This justifies the belief that the PNP should be separate from the military. The military is mission-oriented, while the police organisation is service-oriented. When you indoctrinalize cops to become service-oriented, they will become like PO1 Sevilla who will not dare hurt or disrespect a civilian, even though that civilian is a rallyist fighting a different cause. This scene would have been different had our cops stayed on as PC.

Miriam and the Class Goat

It’s a pity that a professional police officer like former Director Eliseo dela Paz allowed himself to be put under the limelight of shame. I mean, he served for so many years and because of this Euro general scam, he’ll go down as a disgraced officer. Dela Paz was probably asked by his mistahs in PMA Class 76 to take the fall. Poor man.

What was substantial about this Euro General investigation today is the expose if you will, of Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago. The good senator said that the PNP reportedly has about 650 million pesos in “secret funds” from their PNP Training program. According to Santiago, the allocated salaries of PNP trainees (about 3,500 per annum) are not being given to these trainees and kept by the PNP. By law, the PNP is supposed to take in about 3,500 trainees by January. Yet, they train these cop aspirants without pay for six months before they’re given pay. Ingenious, is’nt?

I commend Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago for this. In the past, I'm not exactly an admirer of the good senator from Iloilo. But, because of her conduct during the past two controversial probes, she regained my respect and I think, most of the people.

She asked relevant questions. She accorded respect to all witnesses and even while receiving none, you maintained exquisite composure. Your acts are presidential material.

To former Director Eliseo dela Paz, I respect you for sacrificing yourself and taking the fall. You are now PMA Class 76’s officially designated goat.

To Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, I take my hat off to you. You have showed that there are still Senators like you who possess tremendous wit, intellectual stamina and bravery. I hate to admit it, but, Madame Senator, you have turned me into one of your admirers. If you plan to take on the presidency, I would surely give my pen for you.

On another dig....

Government, it seems, has been transformed into a big mafia. I mean, syndicates are having their field day in almost all departments of government.

You have a syndicate at the Department of Agriculture, another one reportedly at the DOTC (Department of Transportation and Communication, the LTO), Department of Education (those involved in the book scam), Department of Interior and Local Governments (especially within the bureau of the PNP), Department of Finance (Customs), and the BIR (of course).

Syndicates are amassing more than 30 billion pesos a year. That's the estimate of the World Bank and the Commission on Audit. That's the amount lost due to graft and corruption. Just imagine that.

Question---will we still allow this to happen? I remember the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) admonishing motorists from giving alms to these street vagrants. They say, they're part of a syndicate.

Well, with organized syndicates operating within government, which is better--give taxes and at least 30% of it will go to these syndicates inside government? Or those vagrants? I'll chose the poor anytime.

My take on the PNP-Phil Media War

As a journalist myself, let me express my take on the current imbroglio involving the government and the media. I've been immersing myself to the issue and it seems that media is on a higher moral ground in this struggle.

Let me say that media should first unite and fight this creeping attempt by government institutions to control the flow of information. Why? If journalists would not do this, everybody will wake up one morning in an atmosphere of proto martial rule. Media is the only group who is fighting this government above ground. If groups will not unite now, this fight will all be lost.

One of the things that media should reconcile is its internal struggle. This is a good occasion to really determine who are legitimate media and who are government agents.

I wonder why the opposition seems to be so silent about the issue. They are NOT supporting the cause of Philippine journalists. Well, that goes to show how callous and how indifferent the opposition is. Now is the time for cause-oriented groups and like minded organisations to militate against this administration and prevent a repeat of martial rule. If all of us would just be fence sitters this time around, Arroyo's ravenous lapdogs will be more brazen and bold and do other more oppressive actions against all of us.
