Pnoy counting not on end of term but of disaster

Aside from the MRT train which rammed its barrier and derailed itself which led to about 70 people injured, another shocking news happened yesterday.

President Benigno S. Aquino III, in an interview last night with my former Family and Relations professor Atty. Mel Sta Maria over TV5 dropped something which several people, including this writer, actually expected him to announce---the possibility of him getting another term.

Aquino shared with Atty. Sta Maria what has been occupying his mind since the Supreme Court disagreed with him over the Disbursement Acceleration Program or DAP---his desire to further clip the powers of the Supreme Court and his ambitions for another term.

see this link: http://www.interaksyon.com/article/93241/president-aquino-says-he-is-open-to-cha-cha-2nd-term-and-a-weaker-sc

And how will Aquino do this, considering that what he has shared is against the very vow he took when he assumed the presidency---respect for the Rule of Law and of the Constitution.

A second term for the president is expressly prohibited before the present Charter. Our founding fathers explicitly inserted that provision to deter any crazed man from assuming himself as god.

Is the president so afraid that the possibility of him getting the same fate as his former professor Arroyo and former political ally Estrada looms bigger now than before?

Is the President now siding with a faction of his cabinet whose desire is to ram the possibility of a Roxas presidency down our throats?

Is this the reason why coup rumors were floated about by a political ally of the president so that palace sickos are to mobilize their own forces for a self-coup?

Or the president really is convinced of his invincibility, of his power, or what people now presume--allies of the president probably coaxed Pnoy to near perfection that he is besotted with power?

Everyone knows that the possibility of the House initiating a cha-cha right now is as far as the moon. Though the Liberals have an upper hand in terms of numerical superiority, everyone knows that this superiority does not necessarily result to what the House desires--open the Charter.

This cha-cha has been attempted before by almost every administration which nears its term. And always, cha-cha attempts fail and always suffer the same fate--that of being thrown in the trashcan of the people's consciousness.

Opening the charter just to satisfy the paranoia of the One sitting at the Palace so that he protects himself from prosecution post-term is to me, as sick as one having a throat cancer or someone who already is sick before but is trying to put a brave face?

The President is now leading this country towards greater ruin and disaster.

Incidents like the one that happened at the LRT-MRT is not exactly an accident---this is a sign of a breakdown of the system.

And this breakdown is a result of the absence of leadership. No one is manning the fort. Who is now in charge?

Be forewarned---THERE ARE STILL GOOD MEN HERE

Wilfredo "Boy" Mayor, former whistleblower, was laid to rest yesterday. There was no fanfare, no one shouted praises to the man who exposed the links of the presidential family to jueteng. There were no politicos, no one came to tell the world how brave the man was when he went to the Senate and told what he knew about the First Gentleman and Mikey Arroyo's monthly take in the illegal numbers game. And there was no government official who came and gave wreaths to his relatives nor assurance that justice will be served to their kin, a victim of an assassin's bullet.

Mayor was no Chavit, who once whistleblew the illicit activities of a former head of state and lived to see his downfall. He was no Rose bud who exposed how the men of a former head of the National Police killed druglords and sold seized shabu, and now lived like a celebrity.

Had the public rose in uproar over Mayor's explosive expose, he would have been declared a national hero. Mayor would have enjoyed a comfortable and peaceful life, knowing that he did something good and patriotic.

Had the patriotic elements of this country united behind him and rose against the immorality and criminality of this administration, that man from Albay would have been given a perpetual hero's welcome. Medals, trophies and citations would have filled his house.

Yesterday, no medals were given, no trophies adorn his simple house nor citations filled his grave. Just simple and almost deafening silence, and a few streaks, almost a wail from those whom Mayor left behind.

The man whom many called "tigas" was laid to rest, a victim of injustice in a cruel and immoral society. Had the people of his town rallied behind him, Mayor would probably still be living. But no. In this society, those who trust and believe that dictum "The Truth shall set one free", would have to bite the bullet, one day, literally from those pained by the revelations.

Had Mayor been a son of a Speaker, he would have been still roaming around town, with police escorts and a throng of sympathizers. As Fate would have it, Mayor only has his balls for a bullet vest.

Such is the fate of those who thinks that Truth is still a valuable commodity in this society.

Truth is nothing valuable here, no one gives a shit what is happening in this country, no one cares whether the presidential son gets millions from vices or does anyone care if drug money is used for someone's campaign or if illicit money line the pockets of high officials.

No one cares if a police official gets a Pajero for being a provincial director or that the very head of the State gets a monthly billion peso for not rocking the boat.

No one cares if a reputed jueteng lord becomes deputy intelligence adviser of a president nor former police officials with blood in their hands become Executive secretaries.

No one cares if millions drop dead due to shabu or ecstasy use nor futures betted for that Small Town Lottery.

No one cares if the Philippines serves as the top supplier of marijuana or the favorite transshipment point of shabu or cocaine.

No one.

Those who care live dangerous lives, always looking behind their backs and just, trying to survive with support from nuns, priests and their relatives.

Think of Jun Lozada. Think of Joey de Venecia III. Think of Sandra Cam. Think of a few who dared. They all live deplorable lives, their reward for telling the truth. Truth rewards the brave, yeah, with bullets, if you live in this country.

This society has become one big syndicate, with a mafia heading a government that is no government of no real substance. What's the policy? You are either in or out. If you're out, silence be your prayer bead. If you can't keep your mouth shut, and the truth burst within you, go buy a weapon and a bullet vest. Be ready to die for what you believe in. Otherwise, go to a cave and shout.

Such is the life of a whistleblower.

One of the many things people ask of me why I support Joey de Venecia III, I simply say one thing and one fact alone---we need some one like him to always remind us that there is still hope out there for those who dared and for those who want the Truth exposed.

When I vowed never to leave his side until victory is achieved, I meant it, like what I did for Rosebud.

Joey de Venecia III represents for me something good, a name that tried to stand up against the Powers-that-be. Never mind if people say the reason why he exposed it was that he lost. Never mind if people say that he was once part of the system.

The good thing was, Joey de Venecia III and all the rest of the whistleblowers of our time, they had their epiphanies and took a brave stance.

Never mind that government did not give Joey de Venecia III or Jun Lozada medals for bravery nor trophies for telling the truth.

Whenever I go to urban communities, the praises of people about what he did brings joy to my heart. That there are a lot of people out there who believe in Joey's cause.

Whenever I see the sparkle of people's eyes when I give them Joey's flyers or when they ask me if Joey is a genuine article, and I say that he is, they smile.

Those smiles melt every stress, every tired bone or muscle of my body. Those pat on the back, those admiring looks from the poor masses give me the energy to pursue the Cause of Joey de Venecia III.

Whenever groups go to me and ask me if Joey de Venecia III represents the People's Cause, and I tell them what he is fighting for, and I tell them that Joey de Venecia III represents Hope. That we must allow him to win this elections because that will give a very strong statement to those who worship the Mammon instead of Truth.

BE FOREWARNED, THERE ARE STILL GOOD MEN HERE.

ICRC Hostage Release Talks: Designed to fail?

Will Senator and Red Cross Philippines head Richard Gordon go out to the streets and reveal the real truth? That hawks within the palace are trying their best to derail and eventually cause the negotiations to fail re: release of the three ICRC hostages in Sulu?

Reports on the ground show that military men did not honor the order given by their Army Chief and even the alter-ego of the president, Ronnie Puno, to pullout from the area where the hostages are being kept. It was a good thing that Gordon is slowly backing out of this issue because I think he felt that forces are out to worsen the situation instead of ameliorating or resolving the increasing tensions in the area.

When Major General Sabban was effectively removed since he was not in agreement with the palabas of removing troops in the area, a charm offensive ensued with the goal of showing government sincerity on troop pullout. Yet, as reports would show, the AFP did not fully complied with the gentleman's agreement, even releasing news showing that it was the Abu Sayyaf Group whose dilly-dallying and insincere in all of these.

And why is that Lady Vice Governor from Sulu talking as if she's the spokesperson of the ASG? Puno should seriously look at the extent (if there are any) of this Lady Vice Governor's complicity in all of these. In the celebrated Ces Drilon kidnapping, this Lady Vice Governor was in the thick of things and was even photographed counting the ransom money.

What is very evident so far is this:

1. The ASG will not behead their hostages. They will not immediately release them either should they fail to get any assurances of troop pullout from the AFP.

2. The ASG wants to end negotiations. Based on the report of Arlyn dela Cruz, the ASG leadership wants to start hostilities already with the military except that they are being burdened by this kidnapping. All they would be asking is some few funds to launch an all-out offensive against the Philippine military and spark a regional jihad.

Should the government fail in its commitment to pullout troops, the ASG will not, I say again, behead these hostages. Yes, they have a history of violence. Yes, they actually beheaded their hostages during Erap's time. But, I don't believe they will do it now.

What is really disturbing is all of these is being done at the height of anti-charter change sentiments. That the pro-charter change advocates already got 185 votes seemed to me that hawks within the palace and with probably the blessing of Arroyo, are heightening tensions in Mindanao as a diversionary tactic. It's a good strategy though, given that Arroyo and her ilk are expanding and making additional options available for them should they get the shock of their lives that this 185 signatories are just illusory and not really bent on supporting a very unpopular cause.

Charter Change will not lead to EDSA

After browsing through all those voluminous data from the National Statistics Office, the NSCB (National Statistical Coordination Board), and NEDA, I have arrived at a conclusion---there will be no mass uprising against charter change. Senator Kiko Pangilinan's threat against cha-cha, of a mass movement of people rushing towards EDSA to oppose the current cha-cha measure, is just a figment of his imagination, or at the very least, a desire, a longing short of a concrete basis in reality.

Pangilinan might be alluding to those who are members of the middle class or those whose economic interests might be affected or have felt threatened or have thoughts of being displaced by charter change. They are, expected to go to EDSA and rant, and chant, and holler and huff and puff until 6pm. Expecting their numbers to reach critical mass is something of a day dream. The masses will not rise up all because of cha-cha. No. They'll be no uprising in the streets; or even a whimper will be heard from the suffering and toiling masses due to cha-cha. Those who'll rush headlong at EDSA comprise a tiny fraction of the population, the Thinking and Educated class, which is just 4% of the entire adult population. This 4% is sparsely distributed, not living in one contiguous area and most, if not all, are expats and OFWs.

Why do I say this? Because based on current surveys, people are fed up of government. They hate politics, even talking about it. What concerns people is simply how to survive. Most Filipinos remain pessimistic. Most have withdrawn from societal concerns and simply want to "get things over with" and " work for food" instead of going to EDSA and pay homage to that icon of twisted democracy.

The people will not even fight for liberal democracy nor socialism. They will not show anger over some provisions in the Constitution giving land to foreigners. They don't care if Gloria continues on her despicable reign for as long as they manage to eat today and do so again tomorrow.

This is not apathy nor a lack of anger. What this shows is the lack of a connection between the cha-cha cause and what the zeitgeist is. There is a disconnection between what the Intellectuals want and what the people want. The people want nothing of cha-cha; that is obvious, what with a 67% disapproval rate. However, a mass action is surely not expected from this collective negation since this is definitely not the topmost concern in the minds of many.

What we are right now is a very dangerous situation for democracy. We are in a state of institutional bullying where the bully maintains complete control of his victim. The victim has accepted his lot, has recognized his helplessness to fight the oppression and has given up on his condition. That explains why no amount of exposes or scandals could ever bring back the spring in the legs of those amongst us in the masses who want change.

Yet, what should be done is simply expose the oppression and make people realize that nothing would ever be gained from not withdrawing oneself from a position of weakness. This institutional and State-sponsored condition of acceptance can only be erased by a naked display of a scandal that shows the main political actors directly involved in making life hard for the Filipino.

Malacanang knows this full well; that explains why they are moving right now. Armed with this knowledge, Malacanang can now do whatever it wills itself to do. They can exploit this situation to their advantage. They can rule for as long as they want and they can rob this country dry. No one will ever dare fight them. This is simply a fact of life right now. Charter change will not lead to another EDSA.

Gloria: Oh My God! (Buko na kami!)

Was it Freudian slip or meant to ass lick some more? Press secretary Jesus Dureza today reportedly embarrassed his boss when he prayed for Gloria to have the forebearance to survive 2010 and even rule beyond it. Realizing the implications, Gloria asked journalists that they strike off Dureza's dog prayer. But, you know, stories such as these are obviously head line material.

It's plain and simple dog prayer, the one probably uttered by former Justice Secretary Hernando Perez, COMELEC Commissioner Garcillano, former COMELEC Chairman Abalos, former NEDA and now SSS Chief Romulo Neri and now, being prayed by fertilizer scam architect Joc-Joc Bolante. Bolante prays like that each and every time he goes to a forum such as the Senate (and just today, at the Congress) because deep in his heart, he knows he's lying. Of course, he'll evade jail time since it's still Gloria at the top. He pulled so many legs today, fooled so many people, including Congressmen and for that, he even managed to make a smile out of all the bola-bola. Like what Cebu Congressman Tony Cuenco accused him off, he'll probably be a very good poker player.

And you know why they have this dogged and cultist belief for Gloria? Because these people have nowhere to go in a post-Gloria era. If the Opposition wins in 2010, all of them will be history. Bolante would probably go to a neutral country and stay there permanently. But, that's just a dream.

With a messed up Senate, who would dare cross Gloria and her mafia gang's way, except maybe those who want to commit suicide? Enrile may profess independence but he's an avowed and firm believer of charter change. He can maneuver and exploit the tenuous hold of the majority to power at the Upper Chamber and re-configure the composition of the Majority. At this stage, we have an opposition hao-shiao ruling as a majority. The present majority is weak. They are composed of strong willed and independent-minded individuals who never voted as a block and would probably go their own ways based on their individual political ambitions.

When the time comes for this Senate to vote on an important matter such as the proposal to constitute Congress as a constituent assembly (or call for a Constitutional Convention), there is a strong possibility that another configuration would rise, with those in favor equal in number with those opposed. A divided Senate is the consequence of this latest caper.

A weak and divided Senate will not stand a Chinaman's chance against the administration-strong coalition at the House.

Speaker Nograles will endorse impeachment; cha-cha train pushes thru

There are reports that Speaker Prospero Nograles will endorse the impeachment complaint against his benefactor Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. After publicly saying that it's doomed, Nograles probably realized that it would not do him any good if he uses his power to block the complaint. I think what the Lakas-Kampi gang wants to do is let it go thru the process. It'll not get any votes anyway.

What I'm concerned about now is the charter change campaign. Many Congressmen have been reportedly talking with the administration on this. In fact, there was allegedly a meeting between Gloria and some Congressmen on the night of Saturday in Makati City, precisely discussing charter change. Apparently, talks abound that Gloria and her allies want to pass the charter change proposal on second reading.

Well, I don't know about you, but this is as sneaky as they can get. They would probably sacrifice Bolante and have him roasted at the Senate. They would probably allow the impeachment to pass the committee level. But, they'll never, ever, give up on this stupid cha-cha gravy train.

Gloria has been forewarned already both by her allies and foes that going the cha-cha route would plunge this country into total chaos, anarchy and civil war. Being a risk taker, Gloria is willing to risk it all and probably test the mettle of this "chaos theory". She'll marshall her forces and give cha-cha opponents a run for their monies.

Gloria has a surprise for all of us. Will it really surprise us? Let's see.

Congress will dance the cha-cha on November 10

Speaker Nograles will definitely get the votes for Cha-cha come November 10. The administration has all the numbers in. I'm not at liberty to reveal the source of this information, but for all you people and friends out there, you might want to consider doing something to avert a national disaster waiting to happen come November 10.

The proposal for charter change is sure to be discussed and passed by that date. I know my good friend Harry Roque, the Black and White Movement and the FSGO know about this. Let me propose something--refocus your energies on heightening public support against this Charter Change move.

Senator Mar Roxas has issued his statement against any cha-cha moves. He should be asked to join the growing clamour against cha-cha. Fears of Gloria extending her term seemed to be true. I have on good authority that there is a covert plan by Gloria's lieutenants, foremost is the Fascist in Robes, to create a "situation" as a diversionary tactic.

In these trying times, I call upon every citizen of this beloved country to remain vigilant. We must not let this paradise slip quietly in the dead of the night. Let us prevent the Nightmares of dictatorship happen again, no, not in our lifetimes.

I also call on the Patriots of the New Generation to rise up and take history by the horns. Your organisation is slowly being destroyed, corrupted by greedy, evil-doers in barongs. Also, those Patriots in the trenches, the Motherland is in pain. Give succor to the Motherland; ease her of her pains. And let the New Morning cast blessings to everyone.

Cha-cha at the Senate? Weird

The Senate just filed Resolution No. 10 calling for a change in the system of government from republican presidential to a parliamentary form of government. Malacanang in a statement said they’re surprised with the 180 degree turnaround. The Senate has been vigorously opposing cha-cha moves. Now, eleven senators have signed their own death warrants.

Why the move towards a parliamentary system of government? Note that this reso was even filed by Minority Floor Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr, a strong voice against cha-cha before under the Arroyo administration. Pimentel is known for advocating federalism, yes, but not under Arroyo’s. Why the sudden change of heart, Mr. Pimentel?

Notice that the ones who co-signed the resolution were also strong oppositors to cha-cha, especially Senate President Manuel Villar and Senators Pia Cayetano, Juan Ponce Enrile, Francis Escudero, Jinggoy Estrada, Gregorio Honasan, Panfilo Lacson, Francis Pangilinan and Ramon Revilla Jr. The voting crossed partylines, showing the urgency of the resolution.

What prompted them to file a resolution such as this one? Are they anticipating some moves from Malacanang? Is this a move to finally solve the impasse in peace talks with the Bangsamoro people?

I remember writing about cha-cha a few months ago and I said that this administration has a June deadline for it. Is the Senate pre-empting a similar undertaking from Congress? Do they have prior information that Congress will be initiating cha-cha moves this May?

Some thoughts:

1. Maybe the Senator saw the writing on the wall that they’ll lose the vote come cha-cha in Congress?
2. Maybe they are seeing the specter of a prolonged Arroyo rule under this system of government?
3. Maybe they already lost hope of ousting Gloria from the palace and they just want to slice this country apart so that they, themselves, will be able to rule at least a portion of it?

I would like to know what prompted these fine gentlemen and a lady to vote for cha-cha. And I would also like to know why major palace factotum Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago abstained herself from voting the measure?

Cha-cha train pushes through the dark night

Amidst controversy over the ZTE graft probe, Malacanang, as predicted, pushed through with the charter change train. Former Presidential Chief of Staff Joey Salceda led the charge Tuesday despite some protestations on the timing of the campaign. So, the cha-cha train pushed through the dark night.

This confirms my earlier writings that this entire shembang--the neutralization of Lakas, the ouster of JDV, the election of Nograles, the incarceration of opponents and the apparent coolness of the palace in the ZTE drama--are components of the palace plan for charter change. Ramos has just said last year that cha-cha is too late in the game because any change initiative now would be misinterpreted by the people as a veiled attempt at power perpetuation. Groups, particularly the Opposition, have said time and again that they would oppose cha-cha done at this time.

What all these indicate?

The palace is drunk with power. Because of the inability of people's organizations and the middle class to rise against it, it has been transformed into a whole gigantic mafia organization that has the capability of destroying everything that would try to block its way. It is now flexing its muscles, like a great fire-mouthing dragon, ready to engulf its enemies. This cha-cha campaign shows how resilient and determined this administration is in its attempts at prolonging the term of Arroyo beyond 2010.

This is war.

Groups said that the reason why they are not all out in opposing Arroyo is that it is averting civil war. Well, their silence or their somewhat "critical collaboration" stance has now embolden Arroyo and her cohorts so much so that Arroyo thinks that she is invincible. Groups should now rise over partisan interests and if they are really dead serious in their opposition to cha-cha now, they should coalesce and form a strong front to fight Arroyo.

Why Nograles?

I forgot to write about the change in the speakership. Cong. Rodriguez whom I admire because he gave me a signed copy of his book on Intellectual Property rights when he was a dean of the San Sebastian law school, said that the reason he supported Nograles was because of him being a Mindanawnon. I am wont to criticize Mr. Rodriguez since it is quite apparent that he did it for the idealism. A first termer, Rodriguez probably is so naive to think that his vote would result to huge sums of monies going to his district very soon. If he thinks that way, then, probably others naive as himself also did the same.

Patronage is very apt to describe the Philippine political system. Congressmen exchange their idealism for a few crumbs in the presidential table. Since the president control the road users tax, Congressmen are "obliged" to pay homage to the palace. They have exchanged the independence of Congress for gold. Why?

Because the people expect the Congressmen to perform. How would Congressmen, like Rodriguez, a first termer, perform if they don't have funds to support their projects? These projects will chart their political futures. If they want a career in politics, they better astound the people with their basketball courts, their farm-to-market roads, their public plazas, lighted streets and even ports. They need to give support to their hungry constituents with occasional support for fiestas, funerals and the like.

This is the reality. No one worth his salt would use his own money to fund these things. Rodriguez is one of them. And traditionally, Mindanawnons receive just ten percent of the GAA (General Appropriations Act) budget which is a pittance compared to the ones being received by the Luzon-based congressmen and even the Visayan-based congressmen.

So the systemic cycle continues--people expecting congressmen to perform, congressmen then goes to the palace to ask for funds and of course, the palace expects congressmen to toe the line so to speak. This is pathetic.

Why Nograles?

Nograles has shown his lapdog character early on in his political career. He is an able lieutenant, the kind that would be satisfied with a few crumbs being thrown at him by his principals, who, of course, includes the First Family. If at all, Nograles would do to change congress, he will change congress from an independent constitutional body to a highly patronizing and totally enslaved House of robots.

Nograles is there also to emphasize what this administration wants---charter change. Nograles is the best guy to articulate this because the palace has maintained the line that the reason why we need cha-cha is to help Mindanaonons like him. Definitely, Nograles will soon initiate charter change and would use his being a Mindanaonon to justify it.

Clever. But not quite.

Nograles does not have the political savvyness of JDV to counter opposition to cha-cha. Nograles, for all his posturings, does not command respect among the people, much less, civil society. Nograles is an expensive proposition. Why? Because everytime that he will ask for support, he would need millions from Razon and the First Family to do it. He does not have political capital for to have this, he must have very strong relations with these congressmen, meaning, they should at least have times when they spent it doing political battles together. Obviously, Nograles was just a lieutenant of JDV during those political battles. He is not a tried and tested general. He is an ass-licker yes, but to lick the asses of 240 people in Congress takes time.

Arroyo is the strongest Philippine leader today

Vowing never to go silently, Joe de Venecia made an hour long scathing speech against his former protege, Arroyo. Threatening to expose the anomalies of government, De Venecia slammed Arroyo's administration for graft and corruption and abuse of power. After his valedictory address, the gallery exploded to applause.

Many praise him for what he did. Others, especially those congressmen who were his former allies, criticized him for attacking the president.

Davao Congressman Nograles is the new speaker. Nograles remarked that his election as speaker could be fate. For me, it's not. He got what he wanted by kissing the behind of Arroyo.

What can we make of this things?

First, the ouster of JDV show how strong and how resilient this administration has become. Mrs. Gloria Arroyo is the strongest Philippine leader today. Her position has been further strengthened by this because it shows that she can actually oust even a JDV, a former strong ally.

Its a signal to her other enemies or detractors that she can practically do anything that she wants now. She has strengthened her own party Kampi. By effectively raiding Lakas, Arroyo has made a new party out of the one she considered as her own for so many years.

Second, the lack or absence of dissent from civil society shows how strong Arroyo has become. It signals to her and her lapdogs to actually do whatever they want to perpetuate themselves to power even after 2010.

I bet that the next move of Arroyo etal would be to start the cha-cha train. Nobody can stop Arroyo now from becoming the longest reigning president this country ever had. No other group or force or personality can oust Arroyo now.

With all

History repeating itself: cha-cha again

In 1967, Marcos suffered one of four failures in his political career--he failed to amend the 1935 Constitution through constitutional means. The attempt at changing the charter would have fast-tracked his path to glory without shedding any blood. However, the people failed him. It was only in 1972 when he achieved what he wanted--absolute power through a constitutional dictatorship.

Forty years past and now we see another attempt at charter change. Arroyo, the beneficiary of an illegitimate power grab, wants to change the charter, ostensibly to address one major issue--the increasing Bangsamoro insurgency. Spokesmen of Arroyo are now going the rounds, convincing the people of the necessity of changing the charter to honor the commitment of the government in granting ancestral domain to the Bangsamoro people. Peace adviser Jesus Dureza revealed that the administration decided to again revive the Cha-cha train to honor its commitment last November 2007 to the MILF on the granting of ancestral domain.

I studied the Constitution and found that, yes, the GRP needs to amend the Charter to accommodate the ancestral domain issue. However noble the intention is, unfortunately, this cha-cha thing came at the worst time. It came at a time when Arroyo is nearing the end of her term. Obviously, people will suspect the real intention of the government in reviving cha-cha. It likewise verified earlier reports and suspicions that Arroyo and her gang of thieves want to use the Bangsamoro Question to justify a change in the structure of government. And we know who will benefit from such a change--Arroyo.

Marcos used the Communist bogey in justifying martial law. Now, Arroyo is using the Bangsamoro for her own nefarious scheme. It is quite obvious that Arroyo will use all means to justify a change in the charter.

This early, there are reports that government will use its barangay network to again, muster enough signatures for cha-cha. Late January, Congress thru Cong. Ortega (an Arroyo stooge) will revive cha-cha talks on the committee level.

Reports reaching NPR revealed that government is preparing its security forces to provoke the MILF for another round of war. Expect bombings in the name of cha-cha to again hug the headlines. Expect a "rise" in "terrorist" activities, ostensibly to prove to the Filipino people on the necessity of charter-change.

Opposition groups know about this Arroyo scheme. That's why these camps floated the issue about certain personalities running for 2010. What will these groups do in the event that Arroyo, indeed, force her way for cha-cha? Apparently, Arroyo does not want elections in 2010.

What would Roxas and the Liberal Party do? How about the Nationalista Party of Senator Villar? And more so, Lakas?

It seems that 2008 will be quite an interesting year for all political forces because this early, this administration has shown that it will do everything in its power to perpetuate itself beyond 2010.

Why groups are talking about 2010 this early

ABS-CBN anchor Korina Sanchez and a Catholic cardinal commented that it's too early to talk about the 2010 Presidential elections. Unknown to Korina, 2008 is the best time to talk about this. Why? Three things.

First, talks about 2010 is an indirect attempt at dissuading Arroyo and her underlings in their cha-cha campaign. These are subtle campaigns to condition the minds of Arroyo and her lapdogs that they should discontinue their dastardly plan of changing the charter now. Otherwise, they would court widespread public protests.

Second, these are attempts at persuading perennial destabilizers not to lose hope for a civilian-backed government. Surveys upon surveys have noted a sharp rise of the number of Filipinos supporting a coup against Arroyo. Elites disdain revolutions. A coup cum revolution which would disrupt and change the present power structure would run against elite interests.

Lastly, 2008 is a preparatory year for serious contenders. Political operators know that 2009 is already late for those who seriously want to win in 2010. This year, political parties know that this is the year for them to establish their mass bases so to speak and know the areas where they have weaknesses or strengths.
