This week is quite interesting for one good reason--it was a week when we heard a fairy tale come to life on the one side, and another fairty tale dissipating into thin air on the other.
Silly, I'm talking about this purported plan to kill ex-President Gloria Arroyo and this KC Concepcion-Piolo Pascual breakup.
Both are evidently fairy tales. Mention this statement, "Operation `put the little girl to sleep'" and what reaction do you get? Hindi ba, you'll laugh instantaneously the minute you read this statement. How creative assassins of the former president are, concocting such a title for their operation--such creativity is never expected from those who have blood in their hands.
Hindi ba you picture Gloria wearing a Little Red Riding Hood dress, all cuddled up and sleeping? Probably, even seeing her with a pacifier,hehehe.
Kidding aside, who would believe such a thing? Why would this administration cause the death of Mrs. Arroyo, when everyone, especially the suffering public, want her ALIVE instead of dead?
The blood-thirsty public want nothing more than see Mrs. Arroyo behind bars and suffering. And that can't be achieved if Mrs. Arroyo just suddenly falls from her bed and breaks her neck, oh no. Please God, don't let that happen!
The only possible group that has the motivation and the reason to probably order a killing of the former president is the group of elites whom she abandoned and left to dry when she descended from power.
These demons in barongs are still in government or are transacting with government but sans the great influence they once had. They are suffering because they don't have enough for retirement still, oh no. And the couple just kept all the monies for themselves.
Or probably paranoia has now inflicted its deathly claws in the minds of Mrs. Arroyo. That is what a NAIA airport incident could possibly do to a dame such as Gloria.
Imagine the humiliation she probably felt when for the first time ever in her sixty two year life, Gloria was barred from leaving this country. That is not just a legal setup but a big psychological slam bang affair for Gloria. Sources say that demoralized Gloria so much, she now wants nothing more than put these things behind her. But the very stark prospect of spending xmas in jail probably made her and her allies conjure up assassination plots against their very principal.
Or, rightly so, maybe it is the camp of Arroyo who is wishing for an assassin to put a bullet to the president?
If an assassination plot is far-fetched for Gloria, that is not in the case of President Aquino. Aquino must read between the lines. He is an enemy of Gloria. He must always protect himself.
ON the flipside, this "fairy tale" romance between local showbiznes' princess KC Concepcion and alleged hunk Piolo Pascual started as a fairy tale and ended, according to some, with someone transforming into a fairy right before the very eyes of a girl, ahek!
Seriously, this talk about the split is far from over. Some say, this is not just a simple fairy tale which involved a girl who was head over heels with a guy only to find out that he is not what she imagined him to be...or, to be fair, this is simply not what the guy imagined the girl to be.
Some say this is a problem of a highly presumptive public. I dare say that this is actually a problem of the prevailing thought in showbizness. The problem with showbiz is it presumes that it knows everything the public thinks and wants. Showbiz still presumes that the public has not accepted homosexualism or lesbianism, when in truth and in fact, the public does not care if you're a homo or a lesbian, for as long as you're proud of your sexuality.
It is unfortunate for Piolo to be cast as a villain here, when, in truth, it is KC who is to be blamed for her current suffering.
KC knew those lingering rumours of Piolo's sexuality and preferences. She was totally naive of this fact. She went headlong and bull-strong.
I don't blame KC because she lived all her life in a fairy tale existence. Reality is always so harsh and so brutal. Reality hurts.

Robin Padilla wows the Wowowee crowd; Kudos to ABS-CBN!
They hate Willie Revillame when he disrespects women, disrespects gays and disrespects those with physical disabilities. How many times did Revillame utters such low regard against these people, not to mention, showing his crassness against his colleagues at ABS-CBN?
Nacionalista party standard bearer Manny Villar was wrong when he hired the services of Mr. Revillame as one of his endorsers. Revillame was loved by the people only because he gives them money during the show, period. Look at their faces. Most of the contestants just say what Willie Revillame wants them to, because they want money. Money, money, money. That's all there is to it, when Willie hosts the show. And really, if money is just the basis for watching the show, then, what's the use of having beautiful and highly talented show hosts like Pokwang or that Rodriguez lady.
One, Padilla respects women so much, he's a ladies' man--in a positive way. Revillame is known throughout as a woman beater, a crass man, with a string of divorces tugged in his belt. He still has cases against him in court, the latest, that "beating" incident he did with his former wife.
Two, Padilla is a very humble man. Robin is inherently humble unlike Revillame who pretends to be humble and respectful of old folks.
And three, ABS-CBN did a wonderful job choosing Robin because he's so unlike the other hosts. Tradition says hire a comedian to handle noontime shows. Wrong. Hire somebody whom everybody likes and registers well on television. Revillame does not register well on TV. Fact is, Revillame accosts his guests to say that he's handsome when he's definitely not.
Robin Padilla as host is as good as ice cream. ABS-CBN is trying to disabuse the minds of its audience. Padilla's appearance is refreshing. It's not bastos, as what Revillame is.
IN due time, Padilla will woo audiences to his side, as naturally as they like and love him. Better to be loved because of who you are than loved because you just give them money, like what Revillame always do.
One advice to ABS-CBN---do not fear. Don't succumb to some "unfounded" fears that you'll lose the masa crowd with the absence of Willie Revillame. Let him move to TV5. Sooner or later, Padilla will bring in the crowds.

Fair coverage not an ABS-CBN policy?
I hate to say this because I have so many friends over at ABS-CBN channel 2, but, it seems that about 80 to 90% of their news are dedicated to following the "political career" of Liberal Party presidential candidate Noynoy Aquino. We all know that the Lopezes, owners of ABS-CBN, are friends with the Aquinos, but ABS-CBN is supposed to be "neutral" in terms of giving coverages of political events. Of course, that's the prerogative of the bosses over at the news desks and I respect that. But, it seems that ABS-CBN's sights is just trained on Noynoy and other candidates are not being given the fair and equal coverage.
And we all know that this is a tacit showing of support behind Noynoy's, even leading others to surmise that the Lopezes are banking on a Noynoy win to give them back the economic power they lost over the years due to mismanagement. Or, we're just presuming too much?
I just hope that ABS-CBN will somewhat give people the chance to know what's happening with the campaigns of other candidates. Will we see a fair and equal treatment on September 15, when Vice President Noli de Castro declares his bid for the presidency? Or that of Chiz Escudero possibly on September 18 or October 10? Or that of former president Joseph Estrada on September 23rd? How about Manny Villar's declaration on the last week of September?
ABS-CBN news head Maria Ressa should take a look into this.

ANC Presidentiable Forum
Last night gave us a sampling of how things will turn out in 2010. Five presidentiables, led by a former top banker and economist Senator Mar Roxas, a lawyer turned Senator Dick Gordon, a young turk by the name of Chiz Escudero, a priest turned traditional politician by the name of Governor Ed Panlilio and a defense secretary Gilbert Teodoro took turns in giving some piece of their mind in slumbook questions. It was not a debate, as some, including this corner, surmise, but more like a gradiose press conference, with a bell as timer to boot.
And it also was no forum, for if it was, surely, you'll see panelists interacting with the audience. Nothing of that sort here. It was more of an ANC event presenting probable candidates to the presidency and giving the public a sampling of what they'll do if they emerge a winner in 2010.
Our options are these:
Choose:
1. A judicious economist
2. A militarist haciendero
3. A young liar
4. An activist priest
5. A self-absorbed do-gooder
At best, what we can expect are these probable scenarios:
1. If we elect Mar Roxas as our president, he'll be an intelligent and judicious president. He'll probe the excesses and corruption of this administration and seek justice. He'll be an intelligent president. He'll not pander to anybody. He'll be his own man, with Korina just in one corner, giving him support.
He'll surely improve the economy. His grasp of what's happening in the economy, both internal and external, is impressive. He'll prosecute erring government officials and file cases against private companies in the business of fooling the people.
2. Should we elect Defense secretary Gilbert Teodoro as president, we will definitely see landlords laughing all the way to the bank, turning their agrarian lands into tourism areas and selling them to foreigners. He'll be a tough president, talking peace with rebels while preparing for war. Teodoro will also change the way we see politics---from a presidential bicameral to a presidential unicameral---an obvious tendency to a militarist, totalitarian setup.
Mrs. Arroyo and her devil gang in barongs will obviously laugh their way to retirement. She'll go scot-free to Portugal or Brazil along with billions of pesos while Teodoro and his militarist herd transform the country into a totalitarian plutocracy.
3. If Chiz Escudero wins the presidency, we will surely have a populist government. Grafters and operators will have a field day while the poor will receive crumbs from the national government. Danding Conjuangco will keep his billions while other NPC stalwarts will ran rough-shod of government institutions. Nothing will change. The promise of youth will definitely be wasted in that administration.
Based on his pronouncements, Chiz Escudero would probably be a populist president. The way he pandered to the public, giving us cutsy and motherhood statements, and wary of really revealing his real message, shows you one thing---Chiz is, at best, an improvement of his father, former Marcos associate Salvador Escudero.
First thing, Chiz reiterated that he came from the poor--an obvious lie since everybody knows how rich the Escuderos are in Quezon and in Bicol. Chiz failed in answering Tina Monsod-Palma's first question as truthfully as possible.
Chiz says he does'nt have money---bull. Everyone knows Danding Cojuangco's Nationalist People's Coalition is backing him up. Since his run as Congressman, the NPC has been behind him eversince.
This early, Chiz has showed his true colors. "So young, yet so corrupt," to paraphrase Manila mayor Arsenio Lacson when he referred to a young Manila councilor who later ran as senator. For Chiz, " so young, yet a liar". How can you trust somebody who even lies about his roots?
4. If we elect Ed Panlilio, we'll surely become a theocracy. This early, Manong Ed already gave a series of sermons, good for the soul, bad for the body. In the two hours spent in that forum, Ed Panlilio the priest, failed in two fronts---raise our hopes and at least contribute to the body of literature about change. Nothing substantial was gleaned from Panlilio's sermons. Those are all motherhood statements. Even a first semester political science student could mouth those sorts of things.
5. If Senator Richard Gordon wins the presidency, we will surely see an administration peopled with volunteers while the money allotted to government goes to Big Business. Gordon will also pander to the public, giving them crumbs while allowing the elite to run rough-shod of every piece of change

CBCP condemns Arroyo for corruption
The Catholic Bishop's Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) just released a strongly worded condemnation of the Arroyo regime. CBCP head Archbishop Angel Lagdameo condemned the Arroyo regime for doing nothing to fight corruption. Lagdameo urged the people to act now and change the government.
This, by far, according to Ricky Carandang, is the strongest denunciation ever by the CBCP against Arroyo. Do we see a snowball of dissent against this regime, with Bolante's arrival as the starting point? Hopefully, yes.
The rise of the New Patriots have begun.
On second thought...maybe the CBCP is just muscle flexing so that Arroyo strictly followed what she promised---a veto against the Reproductive Health Bill?
Is this another stunt to show Arroyo that CBCP has the numbers and the power of mischief to force Gloria to choose the CBCP over globalist reproductive health bill lobbyists?

Dare the Patriots
I have a dare to all these groups opposing Arroyo--quo vadis?
What now, given that the Supreme Court has ruled 9-6 in favor of Neri's petition? Will these groups continue to look for the truth? The truth has already been effectively suppressed. Do you have any plans, since this ruling just shows you that there's no more legal avenues to avail of to know the truth.
I am also asking former Senate President Jovito Salonga and former president Fidel V. Ramos--what now? How about AFP Chief of Staff General Hermogenes Esperon? What now sir?
This ruling shows you the completeness of the Arroyo mafia. Each and every constitutional body have all been neutralized. Every one toes the palace line--the church, the media, the Ombusman, the DOJ, the Supreme Court and even, the Senate. What we have right now is the complete picture of a strong, stable constitutional dictatorship.
I also dare the Patriots--what now? Who will now stand up for the truth? This ruling sends a chilling message to all government officials--do your thing and when the Senate or anybody asks you about it, you can go there and tell them half-truths. My friend Aries Rufo of the ABS-CBN/Newsbreak team is right--it effectively emasculated the power of the Senate.
Will the Senate now continue its probe given that even if they call Neri, Neri could only say "hi" and "hello" to them?
I am not worried about this on the legal front. I have always told everybody that this issue is not a legal one but a moral one. This ruling just shows you how far the disjunct is between morals or ethics from our laws. Laws should reflect the morality of the nation. Yet, the highest court of the law does not see this.
I am worried about how to tell this to my kids. I am worried since my kids want to be government officials some day. This ruling tells them to just fuck up with your jobs, rob the country of all you want, and you can get away with it. Sell the patrimony of this nation, sell government lands to foreigners,and if the Ombusman or the Senate come knocking at your door, tell them half-truths. Or just go to the Supreme Court for protection.
This is the saddest day for Philippine democracy, but a victory to all those who want to enrich themselves using public money.

Conditions are ripe for a coup; JDV stands to lose everything
Manolo may not believe that a coup is imminent but I say again, the conditions which justify a military takeover exist. Compared with 1989, 1990, 2004 and 2006, the present conditions are ripe for a government run by military leaders. It may not be apparent, given that "mutinous" soldiers, as what Manolo wrote in his blog: www.quezon.ph, submitted themselves to the legal processes, nonetheless, the "acts" being shown right now by the United Forces and the rebel detainees bear uncanny, pre-conceived actions.
Today, the officers being tried walked out of their hearing, in defiance with the way they are being treated in the court martial.(see Ellen Tordesillas blog). Legislators who filed an impeachment complaint against Arroyo also walked out of the justice committee hearings. These are, obviously, symbolic acts of defiance which is expected to lead into something more than merely walking out of "illegal" proceedings. It shows that people are manifesting overt acts of dissent. These pockets of resistance do not happen overnight. These are planned actions.
Do I believe that these actions are just "isolated", "autonomous" incidents? No. Do I believe that their actions are in someway connected and coordinated? Yes. The mere fact that these groups operated under the new name "United Forces", says much about the solid desire of the people behind them (especially those financing these actions) to really oust Arroyo.
I do agree with one observation of Manolo though that Arroyo might survive all these events and course smoothly to 2010. This may happen for three (3) reasons: First, groups fail to create conditions necessary for the growth of a critical mass. Doronila is right in saying that there is no critical mass at this point. Yet, we can't discount the possibility that, days or weeks right now, a critical mass might develop. At this point, acts of the United Forces fail to animate the emotions of even the middle classes. What do these things indicate? In a traditional purview, it may mean that people are tired of going and marching to EDSA. As I've said, surveys show that people are quite tired of the constitutional, EDSA way that they would welcome an extra-constitutional means of ousting Arroyo.
Second, rebels fail to court a sizeable number of "recruits" to stage an act of defiance among military ranks. Do we see a repeat of a "We Belong" at the PMA this homecoming? Maybe. Or maybe not. It depends whether there are still idealists within the Academy who have the "balls" so to speak to do what their predecessors did in 1985. Lastly, if traditional politicians decide not to join these actions. Its unfortunate that Senators Escudero and Cayetano continue keeping their silence despite what Philippine Star columnist Willy Esposo described our situation as "pre Civil War" times. Escudero and Cayetano are still "star-struck" so to speak; still overjoyed by their "victories". Or, to make a better description, still in rapture on their success in deceiving the people. Those who speak out now comes from unexpected politicians--Roxas and Pangilinan--who were previously accused of being pro-Arroyo.
Arroyo's fate now depends on how weak or how strong her enemies are at the moment. These groups need a new strategy to oust Arroyo. If they use the old EDSA formula, they may not succeed in what they want. Worst, they may lose momentum because their ranks remain weak.
If these groups procrastinate and fail to seize the moment, they may yet see a stronger GMA emerging from the seige unscathed. A stronger GMA might not entertain the idea of giving up power come 2010. This is a very strong possibility given the posturings being shown by Arroyo and the acts being done by her allies especially in Congress and in the business community.
If this happens, I say to the soldiers detained there in Tanay--kiss your liberties goodbye. I also say these to the groups opposing GMA--be prepared to lose a sizeable chunk of your constituencies and prepared to be dispensable, powerless, and irrelevant groups next year until 2010.
JDV is the loser
As I wrote in previous entries, the clear loser of all of these is JDV. JDV stands to lose everything not because of his son but because of his own wrongdoing. He remains a fool, compromising his strong position and continuing to support his enemy. Look at what he did today at the WBC convention. The video of ABS-CBN says it all--JDV sat miles apart GMA. Yet, when the media interviewed him, he told them the say trapo way of courtsying GMA. What a dumb move. GMA's allies are attacking him left and right, her operators slowly destroying him in Congress, yet, JDV remains unresponsive. JDV is certain to lose the speakership. And this is NOT a ruse. Events have shown that actions are being taken to isolate and weaken JDV. If JDV does not act now, he will surely lose the speakership to Fuentebella, a known Danding crony.
Winners
I say again, JDV is out. If reports are true that the reason why the tripartite groups of GMA, FVR and JDV agreed to keep their coalition intact was the promise of GMA to assist FVR and JDV to a transition from presidential to parliamentary, the two elders should be ready to lose their shirts. GMA does not have the will to court widespread revolt if she tries this. I say this again, GMA is not ready to rock the boat further by forcing the parliamentary proposition to the people. It would be foolhardy for the two Pangalatoks to trust GMA to do this. The obvious winners now, in 2010 and even in post-2010 will surely be Kampi, GMA and FG. Mark my word.

Its unfortunate that Senators Escudero and Cayetano continue keeping their silence despite what Philippine Star columnist Willy Esposo described our situation as "pre Civil War" times. Escudero and Cayetano are still "star-struck" so to speak; still overjoyed by their "victories". Or, to make a better description, still in rapture on their success in deceiving the people. Those who speak out now comes from unexpected politicians--Roxas and Pangilinan--who were previously accused of being pro-Arroyo.
Arroyo's fate now depends on how weak or how strong her enemies are at the moment. These groups need a new strategy to oust Arroyo. If they use the old EDSA formula, they may not succeed in what they want. Worst, they may lose momentum because their ranks remain weak.
If these groups procrastinate and fail to seize the moment, they may yet see a stronger GMA emerging from the seige unscathed. A stronger GMA might not entertain the idea of giving up power come 2010. This is a very strong possibility given the posturings being shown by Arroyo and the acts being done by her allies especially in Congress and in the business community.
If this happens, I say to the soldiers detained there in Tanay--kiss your liberties goodbye. I also say these to the groups opposing GMA--be prepared to lose a sizeable chunk of your constituencies and prepared to be dispensable, powerless, and irrelevant groups next year until 2010.
JDV is the loser
As I wrote in previous entries, the clear loser of all of these is JDV. JDV stands to lose everything not because of his son but because of his own wrongdoing. He remains a fool, compromising his strong position and continuing to support his enemy. Look at what he did today at the WBC convention. The video of ABS-CBN says it all--JDV sat miles apart GMA. Yet, when the media interviewed him, he told them the say trapo way of courtsying GMA. What a dumb move. GMA's allies are attacking him left and right, her operators slowly destroying him in Congress, yet, JDV remains unresponsive. JDV is certain to lose the speakership. And this is NOT a ruse. Events have shown that actions are being taken to isolate and weaken JDV. If JDV does not act now, he will surely lose the speakership to Fuentebella, a known Danding crony.
Winners
I say again, JDV is out. If reports are true that the reason why the tripartite groups of GMA, FVR and JDV agreed to keep their coalition intact was the promise of GMA to assist FVR and JDV to a transition from presidential to parliamentary, the two elders should be ready to lose their shirts. GMA does not have the will to court widespread revolt if she tries this. I say this again, GMA is not ready to rock the boat further by forcing the parliamentary proposition to the people. It would be foolhardy for the two Pangalatoks to trust GMA to do this. The obvious winners now, in 2010 and even in post-2010 will surely be Kampi, GMA and FG. Mark my word.
