It seems that, based on newspaper reports, President Aquino himself is brokering a Mar Roxas-Grace Poe tandem. Sources say a Grace Poe-Chiz Escudero tandem is a 100% certainty already. Lately, things are reportedly changing, as Aquino himself is trying his darn best to isolate Escudero and give a Roxas-Poe a chance.
Closest associates with Chiz say the Senator will think twice campaigning against Poe. Poe is in a bind. If she runs as vice president, chances are good, because she fares well at the surveys. That will leave a biblical fight between Roxas and Binay, which, if surveys are again to be believed, would result to a Binay presidency.
Binay's numbers may be slowly going South, but that is exactly what the LP camp wants us to believe. Look closely at these surveys and the opposite is the actual result. Binay is not losing his base. Grace Poe's numbers are improving because she is getting those additional points from somewhere, possibly from Bongbong Marcos' or from other names put there by the survey firm. Binay is holding on.
If talks falter, that assures a Poe-Escudero tandem, which, to be blunt, benefits Escudero more than Poe. Poe would have to fight it out with the vaulted LP machinery and the UNA. Without a very solid support base, Poe stands to lose.
Escudero, meanwhile, will be the runaway winner in the vice-presidential race if Bongbong Marcos will not run. If the NP fields a Cayetano-Marcos campaign, Cayetano will surely lose yet Marcos will definitely win.
Meanwhile, Senator Antonio Trillianes is definitely sure of running for the vice presidency. He's expected to give his opponents a run for their money since his political machinery is stable and expansive.
There is a belief that a two-way fight might result to a dismal defeat of Binay. I don't believe that yarn. Ask around and you'll know what the masses think. In a two-way fight between Roxas and Binay, people will choose Binay anytime. There is this unexplainable disdain against Roxas by most people.
In a two-way fight between Poe and Binay, Poe is expected to put out a good fight but eventually Binay will emerge the winner. If Poe gets Roxas' constituency and some of former president Joseph Estrada's, that is more than enough to defeat Binay.
However, in a three-way fight, with Binay keeping his 25-30% mass base, Poe could probably pull out a stunner since she will eat Roxas' constituency up and may possibly get the numbers enough to pull Binay down to a very slim margin.
Possible configurations this 2016:
1. If talks between the LP camp and the Poe-Escudero camp fails, Mar Roxas may have to run all by himself, which, to be frank, will be perceived as a weak campaign leading to his second defeat at the polls.
2. Binay's camp is leaning towards Berberabe as a potential running mate yet there is a surprise man in the equation which is being convinced to run opposite Binay. I am not at liberty revealing this man but if he agrees, his tandem with Binay will surely be one of the most talked about tandems of this election.
3. The NP is still in a quandary: field their own or coalesce and ensure the victories of their senatorial candidates. There are reports that a Cayetano-Marcos is being prepped. We all know what would happen to Cayetano but at least that gives him a proper "training" for the 2022 elections, yes?
4. The Poe-Escudero tandem is 100% certain. If this happens, expect a Binay-Escudero administration.
5. A Binay-Marcos administration is only possible if Poe runs as a presidential candidate. If Poe runs for the vice presidency, she wins and a Binay-Poe administration looms.

Cayetano, Trillanes and Pimentel: 3 Stooges soiled Senate reputation
That scene showing Makati mayor Jun-jun Binay being physically manhandled and brought to the Senate hearing against his will says it and ends it all. The three stooges, namely Senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Antonio Trillanes IV and Koko Pimentel have shown how three power thirsty senators can actually destroy the very integrity of the institution they represent. I pity these young men because they still have a very long career ahead of them. Now, with their Hitlerian tactics exposed, no one will ever believe them and everyone now consider them politically dead.
Yesterday's hearing was both a Roman tragedy spiced with Wagnerian tones. Imagine, just to satisfy their "pagka pikon" (I heard Cayetano and Trillanes are pikons or "touchy" or "ill-humoured") over this issue. They probably thought that they already have it "in the bag" and is successful in their mission to destroy the Vice president. They thought wrong.
That very scene just proves what the Binay camp is saying all along--that these three Senators are drunk with power and they will do everything to pursue their malevolent political agenda. Surely, that is not the way the Senators of old conduct themselves.
Why is there a Senate blue ribbon? The blue ribbon is supposed to investigate acts relating to excess or abuse of authority and power. How will the blue ribbon now be credible before the eyes of the public when the very same committee tasked to investigate abuses is now an abused platform by three power-hungry and attention-seeking legislators? Where will the abused now seek refuge?
Former senators Rena Saguisag and Joker Arroyo expressed their dismay over the conduct of the sub-committee of the Senate blue ribbon.
These three have just ended the very same stupid joke they started by themselves anyway. The only question is--what happens to their lying witnesses and "resource persons"? Will they go scot-free? Where is justice there?
Kakapalan na lang ng mukha if they still continue the hearings when they already knew that they already surpassed the period of investigation as provided for by the rules of the very institution they represent.

A father's take on the Senate hearings on Binay--please talk about other things and reject Grupo Cono (Cayetano-Trillanes-Pimentel-Roxas)
What more?
Everytime I use the roads, I remember the road tax also taken from me every year. When I use my laptop or watch TV, I remember the taxes taken from me every single time I receive my Meralco billing. Each time I call or text, taxes are being taken away from me. And it irritates me whenever I see an erroneous entry in my Globe bill. You know why? Because it adds to the tax passed to me by this telco.
Even the money I keep in the bank are being taxed.
Me, my kids, their future
And then I see my kids--six of them--and I begin to worry.
With rising prices of foodstuffs, clothes, tuition fees, transportation--almost everything--how much more work do I need to do just to give them the life that I never had? What life will they have years from now? Would it be the life that I want for them?
will we sustain these gains when dirty politics are being practised by our so-called "leaders"
We were able to survive and get a good life because of government.
Every single centavo is precious to me. I am raising six highly active kids, my contribution to the Motherland.
That's why it irritates me, no it ANGERS me, to see my precious taxes being spent on useless hearings being conducted by three underperformers namely Senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Antonio Trillanes and Koko Pimentel.
Instead of finding solutions to the pressing port congestion, rising prices of foodstuffs, MRT long lines, MRT operational problems, environmental destruction, peace and order and so many other things which make life so unbearable here, these stooges use these hearings just for their own selfish political reasons.
Check the websites of these gentlemen and ask them--what laws have they passed that benefitted me and my family? None! Trillanes put in his website that he was instrumental in the passage of the Freedom of Information Act. Where is it? It is still being debated!!
How about this Cayetano, what good did he do for the country? He just yacks, yacks, yacks. He wants us to forget that he, along with his forebears, were traitors of the Revolution. His father was also involved in an anomaly right? Cayetano and his wife were also charged with corruption and even election rigging. Instead of facing these issues like a man, Cayetano hides in the sanctity of the Senate. He is becoming so abusive.
I expect Koko Pimentel to allow the immediate passage of the Divorce Law since he himself has a very tragic personal experience about marriage but what is he doing? He is cavorting with the two other gentlemen just to exact his revenge when Binay accepted his main political nemesis as a member of the opposition.
These senators have an axe to grind against Binay, not to mention, their own personal ambitions or delusions you might say, of power and grandeur. Cayetano wants nothing more than the presidency, which, already the people are telling him not to aspire anymore since he's not capable. He cannot even solve his hair problems.
Trillanes has proven to be just a lapdog of the rich and famous, something which is expected of him. Remember those stupid outings he did in the past? Where did he allegedly fought the government of former president Gloria Arroyo? Hindi ba sa mga hotels? What will he do when he becomes vice president? Hold office too in hotels, I guess.
Worse, aside from wasting our precious taxes, these three wittingly or unwittingly allow themselves to play in the hands of the Cono group of Mar Roxas. Or maybe, these three already made a pack with the devil, pardon the pun.
If these three think that a Roxas presidency is better than Binay's or Grace Poe's or whoever, think again. The people know better. Roxas is a representative of the rich, those who own 90% of the country.
Under a Roxas presidency, expect further price hikes and expect the traditional rich, those high brow and with aquiline noses to amass more wealth.
Roxas represents neo-liberalism which means " selling every single government property to the private sector". This guy does not have a vision for this country. He is a salesman, yes. He will sell every single government agency and service to the highest and his most preferred bidder, which, incidentally, is the Ayala group.
This early, Roxas and his gang of misfits in government already revealed their true colors--they are partial with the Ayalas. The Ayalas want to own everything so that they will be able to charge exorbitant fees, the very same tactic they do with Globe and with their other "services".
The very reason why Roxas gets a very low trust rating is because the people know better. For the years that Roxas has spent in government, name just one thing that made our lives better? None! Fact is, prices of commodities and goods even went up, thanks to the neo-liberal policies of this man who is too thick-skinned, he even claims he's "Mr. Palengke."
Yes, Mar Roxas, indeed is "Mr Palengke" for Big Business--he promotes the sale of government services instead of the other way around. What we need is a builder for a future president. We don't need a salesman.

The Cayetano-Trillanes-Pimentel Fascist Show--how senate hearings are being used just to advance two dreamers' illusions of more power
Two members of the Nacionalista Party, namely, Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Antonio Trillanes IV, are moving heaven and earth just to give flesh to their hallucinations.
In a war path, these two dreamers are using everything in their power, and worse, even the monies of the Filipino taxpayers, just to pin down Vice president Jejomar Binay. These hearings, of which these two politicians cum misers are using, are being funded by Filipino taxpayers monies.
So far, what has the Filipino citizen got after seven or so hearings? Nothing but air, baseless accusations, political harassment and stupid innuendoes.
Of course, the duo are laughing themselves hoarse since they are getting free publicity every single time they ask for a hearing. These two probably thought that they can use public money to propel their political careers. They are so stingy they want US, ordinary taxpayers, to fund their warped dreams thru these hearings of which we finance thru our forced tax deductions.
They are doing so at the expense of ordinary citizens like businessman Antonio Tiu who agreed to be grilled for hours and gave his version of reality by telling and showing these two Fascists how he was able to get the 140 hectare property and transformed it into an agri-tourism park.
Trillanes probably thinks he is still grilling hapless student activists by trying very hard to pin down his former friend businessman Tiu with accusations that borders to the insane. Or maybe Trillanes still remembers his stint at the Navy, when he bullies ship owners in Manila Bay or those times when he sells equipment to the AFP/DND?
I now understand why he did those dramatic takeovers of hotels and why my fellow YOU colleague described him as "bobo" and "a lackey."
Since the start of his political career, Trillanes has been a lapdog of political interests. Before, he probably served as the spy of former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Remember he admitted going to Arroyo and asked her to meet him because he wants to expose what his other fellow soldiers plan against her administration? That is treachery, plain and simple.
Trillanes probably was asked by several businessmen who were'nt able to "prosper" during Arroyo's time to seize the reins of power and turn it over to them so that they, themselves, would use that power to harass their competitors who were closed to Arroyo at that time.
It was God's will that Trillanes failed because had he succeeded, this country could have been managed by idiots.
Like millions of idealistic Filipinos, I was one of those who got convinced of his so-called "idealism." Now, thank God, my eyes are now open.
I do not share his idealism because his is NOT an idealism. Trillanes version of change is fascism.
Ask Trillanes what laws did he ever passed and you"ll get nothing, Nada. zilch, Puro satsat itong batang ito.
How about Cayetano? Well, he dreams of extending his hairline, that's why he does all these things. I remember him running for the chairmanship of the UP student council decades back and I remember him emptying his tear ducts dry when he lost to a SAMASA candidate.
Remember how Cayetano's father behaved during his time? Cayetano's father lawyered for those corrupt businessmen involved in the Belle corp controversy.
Rene Cayetano was not as clean as what his son, Alan Peter pictured him. Besides, this Alan Peter accuses the Binays of having their own political dynasty when he, along with his sister and wife are all in politics?
Nakakatulog pa ba ng mahimbing itong panot na ito? Mahirap magsinungaling araw-araw.
As a taxpayer, I don't want my money spent on useless hearings such as what this sub-committee is doing.
Lastly, how about Koko Pimentel? Why did his wife left him for another man? People used to admire and even envy Koko after getting the top spot in the bar exams.
He probably has everything--a blossoming career at law, Koko is perceived to be more intelligent than his father and he even capped it by marrying a beauty queen.
What really led that beauty queen to abandon him and go to another man? Is it because of his abusive behavior? Remember that this beauty queen told the public how abusive Koko was. Back then, I half believe this.
Now, with his abusive behavior at the hearings, I believed everything which Labaton told us, journalists during those times.
This fascist show of a hearing deserve none of our support. This is just a waste of our money. Worse, we are being dragged into this useless and stupid hearings by two senators who are so drunk with power, they are using our monies to get free publicity and prop their sagging ratings.
It is time to militate against these abusers and corrupt men---STOP THESE HEARINGS. STOP USING PUBLIC MONEY TO FUND THESE HEARINGS. WE, TAXPAYERS, DO NOT WANT TO BE A PARTY TO THIS HEARING WHICH HAS TURNED INTO A RUMP OR KANGAROO COURT.
DOWN WITH THE FASCISTS CAYETANO AND TRILLANES!!

Senate hearings against Vice President Binay--a tiredsome fishing expedition
Listening to today's senate hearing of the sub-committee of the Blue Ribbon makes my stomach churn. Clearly, these three non-performing assets of the Senate, namely Alan Peter Cayetano, Antonio Trillanes and Koko Pimentel are doing their darnest best, trying to make a big issue out of thin air. And they are clearly abusive.
Imagine, a civilian by the name of Chinese-Filipino businessman Antonio "Tony" Tiu is clearly being harassed and intimated by these three stooges, trying desperately to prove their allegation that the businessman is a dummy of the Binays.
When the businessman refuses and stood up against them, the three stooges were clearly upstaged by him, and clearly Tiu demolished their allegations by just merely telling the truth. He is a president of a listed company. He is a private person. His business is commercial agriproduction.
It is fortunate that Trillanes did not get to be the head of the palace because had he meaning, had he succeeded in all those botched coups and became this country's undisputed polticial figure, how many businessmen kaya would fall by the wayside? Many I believe. Sanay na sanay manakot si Trillanes. By the way, hindi ba dating Navy itong si Trillanes? Hindi ba kagawian sa Navy yang mananakot?
Heto namang si Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, gustong gustong magpahaba ng buhok kaya hayan, papel ng papel.
This hearing sucks.

Oplan Anti-Nognog 2016
Atty. JV Bautista is now all over town, exposing what I believe is the biggest political scandal that hit this country for decades.
Oplan Anti-Nognog 2016 is supposed to be a conspiracy meant to attack Vice president Jejomar Binay. Binay, as everyone knows, still leads other contenders in the presidential surveys. Inspite of a 15 percentage points drop, Binay's name still edges that of Grace Poe, Chiz Escudero and of course, the Liberal party's "sentimental choice" according to Butch Abad, Mar Roxas.
If Roxas is the "sentimental choice" of the Liberal party, Binay appears and is still the opposition's best bet come 2016, according to former president Joseph Estrada.
Now, if this presidential thing leads to a "duel", then, who wins but the most statistically probable, and that is Binay.
Not if the elections becomes manual and other camps distribute monies....
Several people, including those in the business community, fears a Binay presidency. Why so? Because Binay, being a reasonable man and a believer of creating a fair and balanced playing field, represents the people's interests, something so despicable to the ears of Big Business.
People's interests means lower prices of food stuffs, of transportation fees, of MRT fees and even of gas.
What Atty Bautista reveals are shocking facts of several LP and administration officials meeting every Thursday in a building office of Buddy Zamora, known nemesis of Binay.
Who attends but Ronald Llamas, presidential adviser for political affairs of the Aquino administration and is a known ally of Mar Roxas, LP man Cong Egay Erice who is the business partner of businessman Eric and of course, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, the publicly declared hatchet man of the group.
Cayetano, inspite of his highly public declaration of his warped dream of becoming president, has reportedly withdrawn already in favor of Mar, after a convincing talk with Ronnie Zamora, one of the Nacionalista Party's political heavyweights.
Zamora who was once an ally of the Binay-Estrada camp, is now working against UNA after a fallout. Zamora is brother of Buddy and Manuel Zamora, whose family is involved in mining. They own NickelAsia, the only mining firm in operation right now.
The thing is, there is a tactical alliance between the Liberals and the Nacionalistas. This came about when Binay announced that he is forming his own political party, thereby isolating traditionalists even from his very own base of support, the opposition. That pronouncement, says sources, was the cue that eventually led to this alliance.
Now, I don't know if the Villars approve of this but it seems that this move by Cayetano is such a stupid move that the possibility of a split within their party looms.

Vice President Jejomar Binay still tops presidential survey inspite of billion peso building controversy
A source reveals to me a survey conducted during the height of accusations of graft against Vice President Jejomar Binay. The survey reveals that Vice President Jejomar Binay is still the top man to beat, with 42%, followed by 12% favoring Grace Poe, Estrada at 9%, with Chiz Escudero and Mar Roxas sharing the fourth spot with 8% and Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr at 7%.
Looking at the surveys, even if three of the names included in this survey join forces, their respective ratings still are insufficient to even go at par level with Binay's.
Now, where are the two accusers of Binay--Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Antonio Trillanes, the very first ones who declared an intention to run for President and Vice president, respectively? Well, curiously, Cayetano got a negative rating (negative 12) and Trillanes (negative 17).
So there. Controversies surrounding Binay's own version of a Burloloy building failed to sully the reputation of the vice president, as far as the people are concerned.
Seemed like Binay has achieved a status which only Erap got--a Teflon-like personality.
Hey wait, this survey was conducted before Senator Miriam Santiago announced her intention of running for the top post. Now that she already threw her hat unto the ring, the question is--will this change the survey ratings the next time? Will Santiago's announcement affect Binay's standing? Will Santiago get the expected fall out from Binay's?
Let us see. For now, seems like the Public is believing the yarn spun by Binay's handlers that all these accusations are just plain and simple politics.
By the way, these figures are already "out in the open" in a very tight circle of this country's influencers.

Vice President Jejomar Binay remains No. 1 in Presidential surveys
![]() |
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV-- negative percentage points in soon-to be released survey
Fact is, she says, two of the Vice President's attackers---Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Antonio Trillanes IV---got negative survey percentage points and are now out of the top 5.
I don't want to pre-emp the release of the surveys made by the top survey firms in the country, but, according to highly reliable information, Binay remains on top, followed by Grace Poe, Chiz Escudero, Miriam Defensor Santiago and Bongbong Marcos Jr. Mar Roxas remains at sixth place, followed by Trillanes and Cayetano, who both got negative percentage points.
So there.
Malou Tiquia, a friend, is correct--these attacks will not lead to Binay's downfall.

There is the possibility that this is the final configuration in this elections. A 7-5 configuration is believable.
Curiously, INK has dumped Chiz Escudero.

Senatorial bet is strongest backer of rice smuggler in Cebu?
A senatorial bet, now trailing four or five spots behind top billers Alan Peter Cayetano and Loren Legarda, is purportedly the one who backs the activities of a certain "A.O.", a political financier who is also involved in the 1.2 billion peso rice smuggling operation which was busted in Cebu just recently by Bureau of Customs men.
"A.O." reportedly brags about his strong connections with this senatoriable, who is also his constant drinking buddy.
I don't believe some suggestions that AO has used or is using his strong personal links with this senator, but the buzz is, many people are afraid of their necks because of the perception that AO do exert some influence over the senator who happens to get financial support from AO.

PR man behind hits against former client?
Jeff Antiporda's news article column at the Manila Times point to a certain public relations man Willie Fernandez as the one behind the alleged "smear campaign" against Senator Loren Legarda. Legarda's handlers accuse Fernandez of instigating the controversy against Legarda for and on behalf of his client Alan Peter Cayetano.
Cayetano, a member of Upsilon Sigma Phi fraternity, is fraternity brother of Fernandez who now handles the publicity of the young senator. According to news sources, Cayetano reportedly wants top billing in this year's elections, that's why he unleashed a 10 million peso PR campaign against fellow Team Pnoy colleague Legarda. A member of the Nacionalistra party, Cayetano was once Loren Legarda's close party colleague. Legarda left Nacionalista and became a Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) member.
Top billing now means automatic inclusion as a possible Vice Presidential candidate come 2016. Is Cayetano salivating for a Vice Presidential post? Could be coz he was once Nacionalista and the voice behind all those filthy accusations against Pnoy during the 2010 elections. Now, he's Liberal.
I don't know with you but Fernandez or no Fernandez, Legarda has got to answer Biraogo's allegations that she owns Manhattan and Forbes park properties which she did not declare in her SALN. During all these years, all we know of Loren's preoccupation is her work as a Senator. Legarda has not earned from gains in any inheritance, so where did she get those millions?
This is a pity. If Fernandez is really the one behind Loren Legarda's smear campaign, then, this is very sad.
Fernandez used to handle the PR requirements of Loren Legarda, first when she was a budding senatorial candidate, up to the time when she ran for the vice presidency.
The Fernandez couple, Willy and his wife Chinbee, are close friends of Loren. I don't exactly know what happened between them, and why Loren dropped Willie as her PR man. If someone knows Loren up, close and personal, it's Willy.
As they say, in politics, nothing is permanent. In PR, nothing personal, just strictly, business. I still hope that this is not true.

A review of the political ads of certain Senatoriables
I just heard UNA spokesperson and campaign manager Toby Tiangco on air giving his side of the latest criticism of Team Pnoy about UNA's senatorial candidates dancing on stage. Tiangco said, they provide entertainment to people. There's nothing wrong with dancing the cha-cha. What's wrong, according to Tiangco, is when former pro-Arroyo allies "team up" with alleged "reformists" in government. He slaps Paul Aquino, dad of Bam Aquino, a senatoriable, who now serves as a campaign tactician of Team Pnoy. Paul Aquino used to handle former president Arroyo's "Team Unity" in 2004 elections.
See the "difference"---a "Team Pnoy" of Aquino and a "Team Unity" of an Arroyo?
Really now, I don't know why politicians dance on stage. There are serious problems being faced by this country, and poverty, surely, is not something to dance about. Other countries, like the US, Bill Clinton once entertained the crowd with his saxophone while Obama once danced on live television. Even these so called "world leaders" danced and sang before a crowd. Of course, some of us would say that those are Western countries and we're different. Some would say that politicians everywhere are no different.
Anyway, I think we can tolerate seeing Loren Legarda dance to the tune of a cha-cha but not see her on national television dancing with a group of women and children and talking about providing food on the table and jobs. These issues are serious ones, and surely, ask around, and these are just something not worthy of a dance.
There are noteworthy political ads though, like Senator Alan Peter Cayetano's. I never liked the guy but his commercials are something of note. They talk about issues, and the ad provides solutions simply expressed. The ad resonates and you remember it.
Same goes with the political ad of Mrs. Cynthia Villar. It talks about the Villar Foundation, which provides jobs for women. The ad is straight-forward---Mrs. Villar is a no-nonsense politician. She does what she promises. She helps people, period.
Team Pnoy's political ad as of late, tells of a Pnoy, dressed in barong, talking about his candidates. Background is a road and there's a yellow field. Another great ad I should say, but rather pretentious and aims to deceive. Just look at his candidates--they are the same old faces who has misled this country for decades.
I haven't seen UNA's political ads, but I remember the one they produced in 2004---the bagong umaga ad. I still remember the jingle and the iconic face that lit up the screen whenever that ad was aired. That ad had promise. Yet, that promise was hijacked by a group of nefarious elements within the Arroyo regime, and that is now part of History.
So now, even with these ads, you can actually use them to "separate the shaff from the grain" so to speak. Those who treat monumental societal issues like they are just "jokes" should not be included in your list of senatoriables. Hey, we have been entertained by the antics of these political jokers for more than two decades already, and now is the time to elect those who seriously take these issues not at "face value", but of "substantive" level.
Let us not joke around this time. This is not the time to horse around.

Barber's Ace--a "cutting" not "counting" machine
A news report says about 61 information technology experts were involved in vote-shaving and vote rigging operations. These "army" of IT experts were led by hundreds of "koala bears" who offered their services to numerous politicians for as much as 50 million pesos, if you believe Surigao governor Ace Barbers.
Barbers is no stranger to dagdag-bawas. His father, former senator Robert Barbers was once victimized by the old manual counting system. So, Ace Barbers knows what he's talking about. It seems that he was the second member of the family victimized by the scheme. What's different, this time its high-tech.
When Barbers first appeared before the Congressional inquiry on the May 10, 2010 elections, what he presented as pieces of evidence are compelling proof that there were indeed, instances of electoral fraud in the last elections.
Losing gubernatorial candidate Grace Padaca of Isabela in an interview by Tina Monsod-Palma in Talkback last night, said it right---honest candidates have no match against politicians with money. How can they fight toe-to-toe with candidates awash with money? With vote-buying activities rampant and being now, validated by automation, how then can alternative candidates win against trapos?
It seems that automation is now the validating machine for vote-buying.
So, if you have 50 million in your pocket, you can actually buy your position. If you have a billion, then, you can become a Senator or even president, if you believe a "koala bear" named "Robin".
Money have been a decisive factor in Philippine electoral contests even before Padaca was born. Now, it has become sophisticated, with a machine telling you that it's okey to pay off private survey firms and give money to voters, since the machine would validate mind conditioning tactics anyway.
And how will you prove fraud when the election returns do not bear digital signatures? The Comelec says it is un-necessary since the machines generate its own digital signatures.
It would be a tedious task examining each and every election return from about 350,000 clustered precincts. Imagine the agony of Comelec and Congress looking at each return and calling every BEI member before it to explain what happened.
And how about the very prospect of opening all 76,000 PCOS machines and looking into each and every ballot cast and then validating it with the election returns? And then, looking at each and every Certificates of Canvass, and then trying to reconcile them.
Who would have that patience, especially trapos?
Koala boy was right---this electronic Garci is hard to prove. That's why koala bears had a field day, offering their services to the highest bidder. And its the fault of our leaders. They flunked their math courses. They only know two figures--30 and 40%.
Now, we can't be faulted right? Comelec and Smartmatic conditioned our minds to accept that this time the system would be faster. And we expect it to be like that.
We forgot that in democratic processes like these, we don't need speed. We need the highest quality of counting. Instead of speed, we need accuracy.
Accuracy, it seems, depends on human factors. The machine would count correctly given the right instructions feeded into it. What we failed to grasp is this---humans operate machines. Yes, 1 plus 1 is 2 but it can be 1 plus 1 equals 1000. It's just a matter of programming.
And when you "institute" this kind of system in a country peopled by hundreds of self-proclaimed programmers wearing either a "red" or "black" hat, that's a challenge.
A nincoompoop by the name of Alan Peter Cayetano even challenged Filipino I.T. experts that he'll give a million pesos to whoever will be able to hack the system. Now that koala bear appeared out of nowhere and many more koalas are expected to muck and confuse us, what then Mr. Cayetano? Where are their millions?
Cayetano, himself, is fighting and fending off numerous contenders against his wife Lani's win as mayor of Taguig. The Cayetanos had carved a fiefdom out of the smallest city in the Metro. And they don't seem to mind what happens in the national elections, except to say that Pia won by the clearest margins. Or, so they think?
With accusations flying all over, with questions on how accurate counting machines are, we can very well expect to revert to that old Casio calculator. At least, this time, allow Comelec to buy those calculators that generate receipts. That is even more reliable than 80,000 pesos "counting" machines. O, by the way, make that "cutting" machine.

Age and Immortality
Necrological services were held last night for Manong Jules Fortuna. Friends were there to listen to the eulogies of Manong's friends, like Neal Cruz of the Philippine Daily Inquirer and Satur Ocampo, former colleague in the underground. Last night was an opportunity to revisit the works of Manong Jules, both as a journalist and as a fighter for the Causes of the People. And it was the last time for friends to see him because he'll be flown tomorrow to Romblon, his hometown. He'll rest there.
As for those left behind, its difficult to pick up the pieces after this sudden departure of Manong Jules. I mean, who now will continue his legacy, his struggle?
Hearing my friends leave ages me. I now think that I'm really old when I'm just 38 years old. Yes, I was born January 8, 1971 and being just a tad younger than Chiz or Alan Peter Cayetano feels like am already a relic.
Michael Jackson wanted to be young forever. He even altered his face just to prove a point. But, is it age that kills people? Is it even death that makes people feel their mortality? No.
I remember Bertrand Russell when he said that after his death, his body will just rot somewhere. True. Our bodies will be eaten surely by maggots and with gusto.
Yet, the things we do on this earth will surely live forever. That is the holy grail. That is the cup of immortality.
If you want to live forever, make this world a better place for everyone.
Don't steal.
Don't kill.
Don't cheat.
Don't lie.
Don't harm nature.
Live and let live.
